iPhone XS Max lightning port charging issue

Same problem on iPhone 6 I need to unlock it to charge it And then still 2 out of 3 times it won’t detect my cable!

Seriously I don’t get this how can such a bug exist?!? I really get the feeling that since 2 or more year you are rushing development and dont actually test your hard and software. If you really want to use less recourses, release a new phone very 2 or even 3 years this should give you enough time to come up with something really innovative and tested.

The only reason I stick with apple is IOS if a third party would run IOS I would have switched phones.

The last phone worth buying was the iPhone SE.

I want to take this chance to also mention my disappointment with the iPhone XR you had the chance to make a real great phone by making an new iPhone SE same design edge to edge display newer hardware. this phone would have looked stunning and I bet if it would haben been priced around 500 dollars It would have given you a record in sales.

Oh well just keep ignoring our wishes if you had looked at YouTube for some inspiration you would have seen great renders of truly great design.

Also even in iOS 12 when you enter an address you have to type it out if you want to enter a house number why whhhy can’t you take a look at google there you can click on a little arrow to chose the streetname and then just add the house number...

Common Apple you have to do better please don’t tempt me to switch to Android....

Sorry to vent my frustration with apple here but I rarely comment on anything but this has been boiling for quite sometime.

This problem is far more widespread. Sometimes I get home and plug in my cable. And it won’t charge, I clean the cable top and still won’t charge. Plug in the cable to my iPad and it charges, plug the iPad cable in doesn’t charge. Wait 10 mins it works again. I’m on an iPhone 8. Any one else getting that problem?

I'm having the same issue. Going to go see if I can exchange my Max tonight to see if that resolved a problem. If that doesn't work, I think it may be time to finally part ways with Apple.

Apple's quality control has significantly dropped. This stuff never use to be an issue.

I have same problem, it won’t charge until I touched the screen and also noticed that, it sometimes abruptly restart. Don’t know what’s going on with this iPhone XS Max.

Guys, today I’m going to Apple Orchard (Singapore) for report this issue. Let’s see what they can advice me. I will update here again.

Honestly, they should solve this issue ASAP. Because this is not a CHEAP phone.

I fear it won’t stop. It’s kinda like when I was searching the web for coverage on this before today. All i could find was articles that suggested the user was doing something wrong or needed to change a setting. charging your phone has nothing to do with data transfers. I fear those who think this setting change worked are not fully testing. How can one problem have so many different variations? I cannot wait for Apple to explain.

Not a huge fan of Forbes but it's about time a major news outlet released a story. Apple will have to respond sometime Monday or have a fix in our hands by end of day on Wednesday. I'm going to say they knew about it and ran out of time to implement a fix in the phones prior to launch. Apple TV was given 12.0.1 and Apple Watch was given 5.0.1 over the past week alone.

I have to agree with you on Forbes. Some content is good but the “Nasty surprise” bits are annoying. The nasty surprises are almost always unimportant .....and I don’t see how Apple didn’t know. They could have controlled the narrative but decided a different route it seems.

At the same time, is apple trying to move ppl to wireless charging? I think this is the case, but at the same time, there has to be a way to fix it software wise. It's great that we think we know the issue, but still not great for ppl tho....

I'm having the same issue on top of the terrible blue color shift. I have to wake up the phone to make it charge but I will go to bed with 20 percent battery and wake up to 35 percent battery. The phone will stop charging in the middle of the night. Can't apple make anything right anymore? I'm really regretting this purchase.

Thanks for raising this issue as i have the same problem with my iPhone7 too. I used it for like one and a half year and later what i started getting is this. It doesn't happen every time though. Often when i plug in my charger it doesnt charge but i need to wake it up. I rather showed my phone to one of apple agent and all he said to change the charger but no use, i wasted my money on the charger and their services but problem still exists.

At first i thought i did something wrong when my phone did not charge but now i see this is an actual problem with the phone.

I use wireless charging allot so i have not noticed it much but for a 2000 dollar phone (thats the cost in sweden for the 512gig) it sure needs to work perfect. Still have a week to decide if i want to keep the phone. Hope Apple gets back with a proper response if this is software or hardware issue. Going to Applestore wont do any good at this point.

ios IS the software. If people are going to be forced to start all over with an iphone instead of using a backup then by definition that is a bug. It’s one of the reasons i switched from Android a year ago....easier backups and restoring.

Did you read the full note? Needless to say, I have experienced it with official apple adapters and cables as well as third party on 12.0

No, changing the USB setting is not a fix. Now after trying activating it, the iPhone won’t start charging when I wake/tap the screen as it did before! In order for it to start charging, I now have to unplug and reinsert the lightning cable when the iPhone is active.

iPhone Xs Max 64gb silver model. Same problem. Never noticed it because I usually plug it in while watching something on twitch and then fall asleep with it on and the charging remains going while the phone goes off. Unfortunate, but hopefully Apple issues a fix/replacement soon.
