iPhone XS Max lightning port charging issue

I’ve noticed the SAME thing today! And the process can be reiterated by anyone with the iPhone XS Max so far..... I did the same

Process; which is leaving the device alone for 20 secs and then, without waking the screen, plugging it in ... and NOTHING hap!!! It won’t charge or make a sound ... even after you wake it ! You have to unplug it and re-plug it In with the screen awake for it to start charging . Very very bad bug. If I do this before bed and FORGET to check the phones charging status, I’ll be upset to wake up to a dead phone . This needs to be checkout out ASAP.

I contacted Apple support. They kept giving me the usual canned responses. A friend of mine in another state replicated the issue as well. Where can we report actual feedback on the device, aside from Beta feedback ?

I hope it’s just software related. Now that i’ve switched my phone, I now have the pleasure of going through a process to cancel my monthly Applecare on the old device and hassling with Apple to acknowledge the purchase date of this new phone.

I’m convinced this is a software issue, I was able to get my wife’s XS max to do the same thing, I read on another forum that if you leave you phone flat and not wake for at least 20 seconds and then try to plug in the lighting cable while it is still sleep it will not respond 9 out 10 times to your lighting cable

Another forum with some info about connecting lighting jack after the phone has been left flat and sleep for over 20 seconds, that is how you duplicate the iss

I honestly think this is a issue with ALL XS max iPhones. I think most people just don’t notice it, I noticed mine the first day and have been asking my wife about her’s since I noticed mine and she was confident that her XS max didn’t have that issue to finally today when I checked I discovered that hers had the same issue as well I have a Silver XS max 256 and she has a gold XS max 256

OK I have the same problem with my max Apple did diagnostics on the phone said nothing wrong with hardware has to be software this is my fix that I have found so far by hooking the lightning cable to the phone first and then plug it into the power block seems to charge every time.

I bought my new iPhone XS Max 256G on the exact date when they launched, found this problem immediately but I thought it’s just a connection problem in the beginning. However after 2-3 days usage, the problem become more and more noticeable, sometimes it just won’t charge no matter how I tried.

I hope this is just a software related problem and Apple really needs to take this issue seriously since this is not just a cheap smartphone, it’s a luxury one! Can’t believe this is the quality that Apple deliver after costing me this lot!

iPhone XS Max 64 Gig, I'm having the same exact issue so is my friend who got his phone the same day as mine. It's getting to the point now where every other time I plug in the phone, nothing happens. I either have to disconnect and try again, and sometimes 2-3 times before It starts charging. I think I may return and buy it again a few months since I still have my old 6s backup.

I just erased everything on the phone and set it back up, I can't replicate the problem. It may be a software glitch although when I called Apple tech support, they said it sounds like hardware.

I still have 10 days to return so I'll keep an eye on it.

I have the same problem. I isolated the problem. If it stops charging, I flip the cable and put it in the other way. I've tried both sides and they work, only when they want to. So, it definitely seems like a software issue and not a cable/phone issue. Let's hope they fix the issue with an update.

I think this affects all iPhone Xs max and iPhone Xs

I bet most people have raise to wake or use Face ID

As such lifting up the phone will wake it and accept the charger the first time. I assume unlike the many we have turned this setting off. As such with the update apple did to block iPhones being cracked when inactive for so long is effecting the charging port , but it’s also causing a glitch when charging as such I assume apple knew this, which is why raise to wake is on by default.

If it was hardware it should effect the charger all the time e.g it wouldn’t make a difference if the phone is awake or not. As such I recoken its software.
