iPhone XS Max lightning port charging issue

So Just got my new iphone. and noticed this issue I've been having. I connect the lightning cable to my phone to charge and most of the time it’s automatically charges. However I’ve noticed several times plugging the phone in and no charge comes up. Tried unplugging and plugging back in, sometimes it’ll work. I started to test it out. And I noticed the times I plugged it in, and I get no charge, I‘d leave the phone alone for 10-15 seconds. I pick it up, the screen illuminarea and then the charging symbol pops up. ive Tested these only with apple cables. So I’m thinking it’s either a port issue or possibly software. Any ideas or recommendations ?

thanks.

When I contacted Apple-support, they said it was not an iOS issue but a sw issue that occurred when I set up an iPhone from an existing iPhone or a backup. Therefore there is no need for a bug fix of the iOS. Also they said it was not isolated to the new iPhone XS Max phones. The charging issue should therefore be fixed when I did a factory reset.

New to these forums, but my iPhone XS max 256gb in gold also has this issue, but I have found that if I plug the lightning lead into the phone first, then plug this into the apple usb power plug, it starts charging each time, regardless if the screen is on or off.

If I do it the other way around, plug first with the power already on, then plug it into my phone with the screen off it will not charge, have to wake the phone up and plug the lightning cable in again.

My iPhone 8 Plus running IOS 12, no issues at all.

Strange.

I am facing the same issue on my iPhone XS Max. If I try to connect the cable when the phone is in sleep, it doesn't charge. When I tap the screen to wake it after connecting the cable, it starts charging. But the important thing I noticed was that, if you have the phone awake and then you lock it and try to connect cable immediately with the screen off, it wakes up and shows that it's charging. But if you leave it in sleep for about 10-15 minutes and then try to connect the cable without waking the screen, it does not charge.

I spoke to three different apple support advisors. The first one told me to turn on: Settings --> Face ID & Passcode --> USB Accessories. But it didn't help. The second rep asked me to try using different cables and adapters. It didn't help either. The third one asked me to try toggling the USB Accessories option again and asked me to force restart the phone. But that also did not help. Finally, they asked me to bring it in to have a look. Hoping it's just software issue!

EASY AND SIMPLE SOLUTION READ HERE:

Hey guys!

You guys are probably very concerned and worried but don’t be! It is actually a security feature designed by Apple to detect and protect from unwanted/unknown accessories! Most of the phones come with the protection on! To simply allow access to charge when your phone locked, go to “settings” then click “Face ID and passcode” log in, scroll down to where it says allow access when locked and see if your “USB accessories” is off, switch it on to green if that’s the case and then it should allow you to charge with a lock phone now! :) hopefully this helps clear up confusion! This feature is on most of the new iPhones now! It’s just a security issue!

Same issue here on my XS 256. I tried almost everything but nothing worked, so finally I went to apple store and the specialist said nothing is wrong with the hardware, and that they are aware of this issue and working on it in the next iOS update coming up the end of this month. Actually I believe it is software issue since it works fine as long as the phone is awake or been a sleep for very few seconds. I will hold on to it till the new update comes up and find out.

I have this same issue and my phone is only two weeks old. I noticed the lightning port has some wiggle to it which is NOT GOOD. I can only imagine how much worse this will get over time as the lightning port gets some wear and tear from usage. With the lightning port wiggle, it makes sense for charging to have issues because the pins don't line up properly to initiate charge.

I believe this is a hardware issue.
