iPhone XS Max lightning port charging issue

So Just got my new iphone. and noticed this issue I've been having. I connect the lightning cable to my phone to charge and most of the time it’s automatically charges. However I’ve noticed several times plugging the phone in and no charge comes up. Tried unplugging and plugging back in, sometimes it’ll work. I started to test it out. And I noticed the times I plugged it in, and I get no charge, I‘d leave the phone alone for 10-15 seconds. I pick it up, the screen illuminarea and then the charging symbol pops up. ive Tested these only with apple cables. So I’m thinking it’s either a port issue or possibly software. Any ideas or recommendations ?

thanks.

When I contacted Apple-support, they said it was not an iOS issue but a sw issue that occurred when I set up an iPhone from an existing iPhone or a backup. Therefore there is no need for a bug fix of the iOS. Also they said it was not isolated to the new iPhone XS Max phones. The charging issue should therefore be fixed when I did a factory reset.

Having the same issue. Just finished an online chat with Apple. The rep did not know this was a known issue. I sent her this thread's link but they are unable to access while on their work Macs. Similar to others, her recommendation was to exchange my phone. I told her no and referred to everyone on this thread who had already done that without success. She then transferred me to a "Senior Advisor". First, he recommended an exchange, then a Factory Reset. I said no to both. I asked how would this get escalated to Apple and he set me up with a call back tomorrow with another Senior Advisor plans to gather additional info and -- supposedly -- "send to [their] engineering department".

That’s bizarre. Personally I know 5 ppl who got this phone and all have this issue. People in this thread stated they exchanged the phone out and still have this problem. I’m still leaning towards software because once the phone is charging it doesn’t disconnect. When it’s awake, and you plug into lightning port it charges. It’s only when it’s in sleep mode for 5+ seconds and you attempt to charge it, it will not unless you wait a few seconds and wake the screen then the charging icon appears. If this was hardware we’d be losing the charge intermittently.

Yeah I’ve noticed it only happens when the screen is asleep and all 5 phones I’ve tried it on it’s the same thing. For it to happen the screen has to be in sleep for 5+ seconds as mentioned. Also I would like to state it doesn’t always happen but it happenes frequently enough that you notice it, also I have NOT had it happen to me when the screen is actually on. When I plug in the cable when the screen is on it’s okay there’s no issue. The issue only seems to present itself when the screen is asleep and like I said it doesn’t happen always 100% of the time but it happens frequently. So I’m pretty sure it has to be a software issue. Oh and the cable fits good on all the phones I have tried it with, no slack or it doesn’t fall out of the charging port whatsoever so I’m sure it’s not a hardware issue but a software problem
