Server volumes still mount with former names on client

This has been going on for many years now on MacBooks and desktops, across multiple versions of Mac OS. I notice that frequently when I change the name of a volume on a server, the client I used to access the server on which the volume resides still shows and mounts the volume with a former name instead of the new (current) one. Is there some kind of cache I can clear on the client, or where is this former name being retained?

I know that sometimes it can be an issue with the router when server names are old, but this is just volume names (which I change occasionally) on the server. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

MacBook Pro, macOS High Sierra (10.13.6), early 2011, 17", 2.3GHz, 16GB RAM
