After upgrade to MacOS Mojave, I cannot login or connect to App Store.

I am using the latest MacBook Pro 2018 version. After upgrade to MacOS Mojave, I cannot sign out, login App Store or View my account. It always show "Cannot Connect to App Store". I also upgrade my iMac to MacOS Mojave, my iMac does not have this issue.

How can I fix this issue on my 2018 MacBook Pro?

Thank you

I found a solution that worked for me. It took me two steps, and all credit to BocaBoy in this thread: Re: Mojave installation fails: duplicate App Stores, can't sign in with Apple ID (Macbook Pro, Late 2016)

  1. Disable System Integrity Protection:
    1. Reboot the computer into restore mode (press command-R during startup)
    2. Select Terminal from the Utilities... menu
    3. Enter csrutil disable and press return
    4. Restart
  2. Back up and archive the folder in /Library/Security/Trust Settings before deleting them through Terminal. I'll copy BocaBoy's instructions here for you all:

OK, I just spoke with Apple engineering and they gave me a fix for this. It worked for me and it may work for you. You must know how to use Terminal and access hidden directories with Finder in the root of your drive.

First, make SURE that you've backed up the directory /Library/Security/Trust Settings. Copy it on your Desktop or Downloads directory, or wherever you'll be able to access it.

1. Again, back up the user certificate trust settings files described above. Then, remove them with the following commands, entering your administrator password when prompted:

cd "/Library/Security"

sudo ditto -ck "Trust Settings" TrustSettingsBackup.zip

cd "/Library/Security/Trust Settings"

sudo rm *.plist

2. Attempt to sign into the App Store.

This didn't work for me until I restarted at which point I was able to log in and see all of my accumulated updates. If you're not comfortable working at the system level, DON'T do this. If you are, this may fix your problem. It did for me.

Once you're sure that you've got the App Store working, you can delete the TrustSettingsBackup.zip file as well as the backup of the Trust Settings directory.

3. Reenable System Integrity Protection by repeating step 1 but using the command csrutil enable.

After I modified the Trust Settings directory, I was able to reboot and connect to the App Store and Books Store.

Good luck, everyone!

Thanks for all your effort here. I’ve been able to connect to App Store throughout however I only have the update tab showing on the App Store left hand menu. I was hoping that this process would solve issue but no luck. My iBooks works properly and when I create additional admin account App Store works and is displayed properly. Any insight you may have would be appreciated.

Here is the fix, that was posted in the forums. I just hope it is permanent. I can't take credit for this another member posted it.

I'm so used to letting new connections in via Silent Mode. I never thought to check the rules. Even after the Little Snitch update there was still a rule for the App Store that denied all connections, which was a conflict with the rule to allow any process to connect to the domain apple.com. I deleted the rule and now everything is working normally again. Thanks!

Is that what is in your Security Trust Settings? Now as I said before follow the directions. Only cut and paste. That file is what needs to be copied to a safe place documents or user. But maybe someone else can chime in. Looks like you typed something wrong. That pilst file should be removed with the process. I don't want to tell you to delete it, as I am not sure if it can be done and if it is safe.

Thank you for turning me to the right spot. It didn't work for me initially. But I kept trying and I got it to work. It is the certificates under key chain. Plus another thing that is weird was that the certificates appeared to duplicate themselves both under "System Roots" and "Certificates" as I was toggling them from "Never Trust" to "Use System Defaults".

I also saw some expired certificates that had my Apple ID e-mail address that I was tempted to delete, but I decided not to.

So then I clicked on "System" and saw some certificates listed there. When the first few you mentioned didn't work I proceeded on Toggling the following:

Apple Root CA - G2

Apple Root CA - G3

Those didn't appear to do anything really. So I continued doing it to the remaining certificates listed:

com.apple.kerberos.kdc

com.apple.systemdefault

Now this one was set to "Always Trust" when I found it:

DigiCert High Assurance EV Root CA

So I set it to "Never Trust" and then to "Use System Defaults".

Then I opened up the App Store and then instead of being locked out from being able to login and logout, it prompted me for my password for my Apple ID, I entered it and then the problem went away and it started working properly.

So I thank you for your help in pointing me towards the right direction in solving this problem. Others that were still stuck like I was may be able to correct their problem as I have done.

I hope this information can help someone else who has their App Store locked to the point where it won't accept your password, allow you to log out, and gives a "Cannot Connect to the App Store" and that other message "Unexpected error" when you try to put in your password to connect to the App Store.

Thank you,

Gene

Oh I understand that the object is to open the App Store app. And I can't.

What did happen on two occasions is when I clicked on the Apple logo, the App Store had reference numbers attached to the App Store app for updates. It does not allow me to enter, but it has delivered certain updates. So I can receive an update by clicking the reference to it on the Appp Store app but I can't open the App store app. Just the new individual app updates.

Hey Testing,

I had exactly the same problem with App Store showing only Updates. A bit exhaustive searching and I found a solution to the problem.

This problem is most likely caused by another copy of App Store.app somewhere on your filesystem. If this is your problem it is easy to fix, the problem is locating the other copy of App Store.

You can do this by starting System Information by clicking on the 'Apple' Menu Icon, then About This Mac. Once System Information starts, click on the System Report... button. In the left hand side pane, select Software and then Applications. Give the report a bit of time to generate (1-5 minutes). Once it appears in the right hand pane scroll through the application list until you find App Store.

On my system I had three copies, the current version from Mojave, and two others from CarbonCopy SafetyNet Backups. You can find the location of each by first clicking on the application, and then looking at the Location in the pane just below the Application List pane. For example I had a copy of App Store located in:

/_CCC\ SafetyNet/2016-09-08\ \(September\ 08\)\ 15-00-23/

/_CCC\ SafetyNet/2016-09-08\/2016-09-08\ \(September\ 08\)\ 15-20-44/

As these were rather old backups of the App Store.app, I simply deleted both of these directories. Once I freed myself of these old backups the App Store worked perfectly. I don't believe a reboot is necessary, but I did one none the less.

For information on why this happens and more explanation see the following very helpful posts:

mac appstore - Mojave App Store is only showing Updates tab - Ask Different

mac appstore - Mac App Store not working on macOS Mojave 10.14 Beta 1 (18A293u) - Ask Different

Tried to talk with AppleCare support and was told to wipe my hard drive and reinstall MacOS (um, no thank you), or not to make changes as the advise might damage your operating system (from a filesystem backup copy???). Whatever.

Eventually AppleCare may figure this out, as with all advise given in forums, please proceed with caution.

I am proud and grateful for all the ideas. I now can open the app store. Following the lead from Mr Gertz above, I discovered that I had three app store applications on my computer . One was buried in a folder on my desktop, and on was found by going through my old hard drive accounts looking for a comparable date, which I did.

So all is well (right now). Thanks to all.

Thanks for this - oddly, while these steps in Keychain Access did restore my ability to log into the Mac App Store and see my account, the odd thing is that it shows all of my apps as ready to download (iCloud logo with arrow pointing down.) In other words, it doesn't realize that I have all of my apps already downloaded. I have plenty of apps that need updates, but the App Store isn't recognizing this, and when I click the download icon on an app (which is already installed,) it just opens the pre-existing app!

After upgrade to MacOS Mojave, I cannot login or connect to App Store.
