Mac OS Mojave Scanner Not Working

Hi,

Installed Mac OS Mojave yesterday, my printer (Samsung M2070) cannot scan any kind of document. The problem is that it returns an error when I try to scan with JPEG, TIFF etc.

Anyone find a workaround? All functions of the printer work great in High Sierra.

MacBook Pro TouchBar and Touch ID, macOS Mojave (10.14)

Hi guys,

Same here: I have a Samsung C460W (basically the same as Stargoose above) and it's not scanning as it should. It does all the preview steps, scan and fails when trying to save as image (PNG, JPEG, etc.) with an error message.

If I choose PDF, it succeeds in saving a file, which is corrupted and can't be opened by any app (Preview, Acrobat or any other). It's connected via WiFi to my LAN. Prior to Mojave, it was working fine.

I've tried removing all the printers and adding again: useless.

On the other hand, using the provided software (Samsung Easy Printer Manager, v1.02.07 (2015-07-06)) the scanner works perfectly.

When will Apple release a statement/solution for this matter?

Dear all,

here is the same samsung SCX3400 and M407 printer/scanner multifunction and upgraded to OSX 10.14 Mojave.

I was desperate to fix this problem, but solution was on my computer already. (and maybe on yours too)

1) Search your computer for Scan Assistant.app (it comes with printers software package)

on mine computer it is located here: /Applications/Samsung/Scan Assistant.app

2) Wait for a moment and it will find your printer/scanner.

3) Scan with this utility, and all goes fine.

There is also additional software from samsung: Samsung Easy Printer Manager

It is also has scanning ability and works fine, but need to be installed from samsung site.

Search is not working anymore on that site, here is direct link for latest OSX version I have found: DOWNLOAD

Please respond here if this helps, i want to know.

For all the scanner drive which not work with Mac Mojave, just try the old fashioned way as i did by using Import from Printer function in Preview. It works perfectly! Took me 4 hours to find a proper free scanning software for Mac desperately and finally, after questioning myself many times why Mac doesn't develop a single built-in app for the very basic and essential function like this, I founded one that saved my life, so I'm sharing this to all that facing the same problems. Hope this helps ;)

You need to be asking your printer manufacturer for updated drivers for Mojave. I have an Epson all-in-one printer-scanner-fax WF2860 and it scans perfectly with Mojave. By the way, there is no such thing as “Apple drivers”. The drivers supplied by Mojave are from the manufacturers, not Apple.

I don’t know if it’s been mentioned in this thread but have you tried resetting the print system in Mojave? This forces a complete reset of the printing system and reloading of drivers. You then have to re-install each printer as if it’s the first time you used it. Open System Preferences->Printer&Scanners. In the window that shows your printers control-click (right click) in a blank area and you will see the option to reset the printing system. Follow the instructions.

If you have tried this already I apologize and your best bet then is to contact your printer manufacturer’s support group and see if updated drivers are coming.

>this Hamrick thing works but you have to pay for it $100

That's the price for the Pro version which includes film/side scanning and OCR with free lifetime updates.

If you don't need the Pro version then the standard edition (no film scanning, no OCR) with free updates for one year costs a more reasonable $39.95. That met my needs so it is what I purchased.

Same problem with my Samsung CLX-3185F, on macOS 10.14.1.

Image Capture scanning in color fails, but scanning in B&W works as already mentioned.

Same thing happens when scanning with Photoshop (seems to use the same scanner API/drive/Framework).

VueScan works fine (have a license since 2003 - one of the best software purchases I've made).

From the top of my 30 years as a software developer I dare to say that Apple changed/broke something in Mojave and HP is not going to make any effort to adapt/fix the drivers to it. Interesting though that other software works, that points more to a problem on the Apple side. Only hope is for Apple to acknowledge the problem and issue a fix.

My guess is that the drivers for Mojave are the same as those for High Sierra. Since it was working fine in 10.13, Apple can easily address the issue. As the fix will need to be on Framework side (not drivers), we will have to wait for an OS update.

Let's hope they will look into it!

I'll bet that the drivers for all the printers and scanners that stopped working are 32 bit drivers since Mac OS 10.14 does not support 32-bit drivers anymore. The solution is the scanner manufacturers need to write and release 64-bit drivers for these models. Unfortunately, many are unwilling to do that for older hardware. I had to replace my Canon LiDE 70 as Canon didn't write 64-bit drivers for it; I got an LiDE 220 (love the small form factor) as a replacement.

BTW, Vuescan comes in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions so if you buy/use it with Mojave, get the 64-bit version.

I tried all the recommendations (restart print service, re-install print drivers, use a usb connection, try saving as pdf, try to use a different scanning utility) nothing works.

I was just about ready to go buy a stand-alone scanner, so I searched what works with Mojave and guess what - there are a ton with similar problems. But I did find a fix : someone recommended VueScan https://www.hamrick.com/

Yeah it costs $ but it worked for me(cheaper than new scanner). Still very irritated that Apple broke and doesn't seem the least concerned about fixing something that worked before the upgrade to Mojave - blame it on HP or whoever, the stuff worked before Apple came out with the upgrade.

I have just spent 3 hours trying to sort this out - I use PDF Scanner and have not been able to use it since upgrading to Mojave - however this evening as a last ditch attempt I deleted and reinstalled the printer and scanner drivers for my Samsung M2070W and it worked faster than it used to - so I hope this solution will work for you too!!

Hi everybody,

I had a similar problem with my Epson WF 2760 and searched the web finding that this seems to be a widespread OS X problem which seems to occur when IPv6 is activated in the printer settings.

Simple solution: Deactivate it!

This is very simple once you've found out where to change the network settings of your printer (NOT the Mac's and NOT the router's settings).

I'll describe what I did to fix my Epson:

My printer is connected to my network via WiFi, so I could access it through my browser:

- I checked the printer's IP address in my printer's network settings (my printer has a touchscreen where you can check the settings in the network status).

- Next, I accessed the IP address via my browser (Safari) - just use it as an URL.

- In the Browser, an Epson Service Center came up with a tiny little Pop-up menu on the top right which at this point said "Basic Settings" ("Grundeinstellungen" in German). Pop it up and choose "Extended Settings" ("Erweiterte Einstellungen" in German) and you get to the actual Settings with a menu on the left.

- In that Menu, I opened > Network Settings > Basic

- Then I set the DNS Settings to AUTO and DEACTIVATED IPv6 and clicked NEXT.

That's it. Scanner worked even without a restart.

Hope this might help. Good luck!

Same here. I have Samsung SCX-3200 and MacBook with macOS Mojave 10.14.2 on it. I can save scanned images, if they're created in black and white or using text mode. But scanning in color returns error. Previously on High Sierra everything was fine.

I've installed Samsung Easy Document Creator as AndrzejKopyto Mac OS Mojave Scanner Not Working - Apple Community suggested. It helped, but I'd like Apple fixing this bug.

I recently installed Mojave and had related problems trying to scan with a Canon MX920 over Airprint (no problems printing, however). But it seems to be fixed. Here’s what I did:

  1. got the latest driver from Canon (c. 9/4/2018)
  2. reset the printing system in System Preferences (control click or right click)
  3. direct connected the printer to Macbook via USB cable

==> that opened up a system level dialog box asking if I wanted to update the printer driver; I clicked “yes

I did some scans with the printer still hardwired, then disconnected the cable and tried to scan more.

It worked.
