Mac OS Mojave Scanner Not Working

Hi,

Installed Mac OS Mojave yesterday, my printer (Samsung M2070) cannot scan any kind of document. The problem is that it returns an error when I try to scan with JPEG, TIFF etc.

Anyone find a workaround? All functions of the printer work great in High Sierra.

Hi guys,

Same here: I have a Samsung C460W (basically the same as Stargoose above) and it's not scanning as it should. It does all the preview steps, scan and fails when trying to save as image (PNG, JPEG, etc.) with an error message.

If I choose PDF, it succeeds in saving a file, which is corrupted and can't be opened by any app (Preview, Acrobat or any other). It's connected via WiFi to my LAN. Prior to Mojave, it was working fine.

I've tried removing all the printers and adding again: useless.

On the other hand, using the provided software (Samsung Easy Printer Manager, v1.02.07 (2015-07-06)) the scanner works perfectly.

When will Apple release a statement/solution for this matter?

Although I tend to agree that VueScan is, at this time, the best solution, the issue at hand is a bug in Apple's Image Capture program, and it should be Apple's responsibility to fix it (and quick).

Don't get me wrong. I've been a VueScan user and fan for more 16 years. I purchased the Pro license for an old Minolta film scan (that I still use) and have been able to use the same license ever since on my Macs (and I purchased the M$ Windows version). It was worth every dollar, specially since it allows me to use all my old film scanners on the most recent OS (and I bet it will do for many years to come).

Still Apple needs to fix Image Capture. Users should not be compelled to buy an extra piece of software because Apple simply did something wrong.

Apple has dropped support for out-dated hardware before when the hardware vendor stops writing drivers for said hardware. I just had to buy a new scanner as Canon told me they would not be updating their driver to work with the Mojave follow-on version of Mac OS. In fact, the LAST driver they provided to Apple only supported Jaguar (10.2) through Lion (10.7) which is why Image Capture did not work for me in 10.8, 10.10, and 10.11. It actually did work randomly but could not be relied on so I moved to VueScan. Unfortunately, even Hamrick couldn't write a 64-bit driver for the scanner so I bought new hardware, but I've stayed with VueScan rather than use Image Capture.

This is crazy, out of desperation i've tried installing "Samsung Easy Document Creator" software for completely different scanner (SL-C480FW). I have scx-3200.

Ofc default apple printer & scanner still doesnt work. BUT Through document creator i can normally scan my documents!

So it my understanding, that Apple has requested manufacturers use only Airprint drivers, drivers written collaboratively with various manufacturers and Apple, to preform print and scan functions. These "drivers" are only available from Apple. Most manufacturers have not, and will not, publish drivers for Mojave on there websites for newer hardware. This change has been at the behest of Apple. Apple wishes to retain full control over how non-Apple hardware interacts with their OS. Therefore, Apple should be supporting the fix for these issues.

You will not be hearing from Apple on this matter, nor a “solution”. Apple does not develop or produce printer/scanner drivers. It is up to the printer manufacturer to keep their product compatible with the current version of macOS, whatever that may be. You should also have noticed by now that this “issue” is primarily limited to Samsung products (which are now developed by HP). Other printers/scanners continue to work just fine with Mojave, including my Epson WF-2860 and my ancient HP Laserjet 1022. Samsung/HP need to release a fixed version of their drivers for this to be resolved, not Apple.
