iPhone XS Max - Yellow Tint

Hi All,

When looking at the iPhone XS Max direct there is a yellow tint, however, if you tilt it slightly upward or downward, the screen color looks perfect. Never had this issue on last years iPhone X.

- True Tone disabled.

- Night Shift disabled (also changed to less warm).

- Reduce White Point disabled.

- Color filter helps a little by adjusting the hue and intensity, but yellow tint still bleeds through a little.

Have any other fellow Apple users noticed this?

Thanks.

Try this (Don't waste your time trying to exchange it, most likely it'll be the same OLED), this fixes it:

  1. Visit your Settings App > General > Accessibility > Display Accommodations > Color Filters
  2. Tap Color Tint and verify it’s checked
  3. Navigate to the HUE slider and move it left or right until you reach your desired screen look
  4. The adjust the INTENSITY slider left or right to suit your preference

ATTENTION: YELLOW SCREEN IS SELF FIXABLE! I noticed this yellow tint on my iPhone XS Max and was obsessed on fixing it. Finally figured it out and it looks better then my previous iPhone X and earlier phones now. In fact, it’s perfect now. Follow my directions:

Disclaimer: Make sure True Tone and Nightshift are off first. If the yellow tint is still there, which it was in my case, here is the fix:

No More Yellow!

  1. Visit your Settings App > General > Accessibility > Display Accommodations > Turn on Color Filters
  2. Tap Color Tint and verify it’s checked
  3. Navigate to the HUE slider and move it left or right until you reach your desired screen look. (I personally recommend this setting at around 35%)
  4. Then adjust the INTENSITY slider left or right to suit your preference (I personally recommend this setting at around 65%)

Want additional brightness?

Additional optional setting:

Visit your Settings App > General > Accessibility > Display Accommodations > TURN OFF Reduce White Point

I’ve attached a screenshot of my settings, If you have any questions, or want me to send you additional screenshots of the perfect settings, feel free to email me at **** and I’ll respond as soon as possible User uploaded file

I lucked out and went to Apple Store and they had one Space Black iPhone XS Max (512GB). I swap it out and the screen is much better, not 100%, but I can leave with it. It just seems like all phone have this slight yellow hue with True Tone off. As always Apple Store employees are cool and helpful (beside the one who wanted me to go home to get the box to return. Ask for manager problem solve.)

Funny while at the Apple Store my old phone developed notifications showing like a burnt in image (it was very faint) and then it got two shades more yellow. That phone was clearly a defect.

I have the exact same issue. Just got it yesterday and noticed it right when I was home. It always looks like night shift or true tone is enabled. Probably gonna replace it (wich ***** cuz the closest apple store is an hour away from me). I have a feeling this could be because of LG producing some of the displays. They are known for having problems with blue - or yellow shift.

Return it if you can and get a new one :)

Not Solved. I just checked my color filter it was on. Forgot iCloud restored all settings. So what I thought was a fixed phone is not. Still yellow if I turn off color filter. Ugh. It seems this is a defect all the way round. A couple of my friends have the same issue. Never and issue on the iPhone X model last year with smaller screen and produced by Samsung. Who knows what to do at this point. Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is looking really good about now.

Yep, I already did that (stated in the prior post). That's why I thought the problem was fixed, but it was just my color filter settings that restored on the new phone from an icloud backup. If that was off, I would have definitely noticed in the Apple Store. But yep agreed, an issue with all phones. If I didn't purchase the Apple Watch S4 and have all Apple Devices know to man, I would be heavily thinking about returning iPhone for the GN9. I'm shocked Apple QC didn't pick up on this. True Apple fan here, but all of the Apple users paying $1,000+ for phones should be able to turn off True Tone and get the correct display without having to enable color filters with still having a slight yellow tint. They need to go back to Samsung manufacturing their OLEDS.

I contacted Apple and spoke with a Senior Advisor. He opened a ticket with Engineering to look into the issue since this "yellow hue" is happening across all iPhone XS Max phones. The Senior Advisor mentioned that there was a push to have a more warm effect across the phones, so this might be done on purpose. I stated, that's what the option for True Tone is for, how can it be an option, if you still will give the phones a slight yellow hue with True Tone turned off? Like they should leave that to the customer to decide, because obviously its really noticeable to people who do not use True Tone. It would be nice if this was an software issue they can push in the next version of iOS 12. Yeah True Tone is an option, let the customer choose, if they want the warmer or cooler screen.

Will keep posted!

Thanks for the post, but I have already been done that and aware of this (see prior posts). When true tone option is turned off, it should not still be yellow, requiring customers of a $1499 phone to have to manually tweak color filters to get somewhat of a decent color. I'm still waiting on engineers, but there already been reports this seems to be a software issue as its happening across all phones.

Also, the way you have your color intensity set will give it a blue hue, I would suggest putting it right under the "I" and "N". But you said it looks perfect on yours, which further tells me something is off with these phones, as if I set my like how you have it, the phone is blue hue with a hint of yellow coming through. Right now mine is about a perfect I can get it at 80%, but it just you can still that yellow bleeding through.

I sure hope it is software issue. It is happening on my XS Max as well. I went to my local Apple Store to get the geniuses check it. They were kind enough to replace the one that I have but unfortunately when I got home, there is no improvement at all. It has the same yellow tint as my previous one.

True Apple fan here too.

To help put your minds to rest, I went to the Apple store last Sunday (Sept. 30th) and compared it to the store models that they have there (Santa Monica, CA). They all pretty much look the same as mine, even compared it to my friend's who has a X.

It's definitely "warmer" in tint than the phone I replaced which is an iPhone 7 (LCD).

With that said, it's almost 2 weeks since I've had my iPhone XS, and it definitely gets less "yellow" over time.

Oct 17, 2018 11:43 AM in response to tbanna

Same here. I can not live with it.

Comparing it directly side by side to my iPhone X is Night and Day.

I have scheduled a return/swap. If the new unit is as bad I will demand a full return.

I do NOT understand Apple is willing to stake their reputation and goodwill by using so low quality displays in a 15000 DKK phone!!! I am so disappointed
