macOS Mojave battery drain

Just updated my OS to Mojave this morning and brought my laptop to work. It was on full charge when I left home. 2hrs after using it, the battery percentage was down to 40% which never happened before during any of my regular use. Also, the texts on the screen are blurry.

****. On Thursday I thought with 10.14.1 this annoying issue was solved for me, now I know it's not.

Disabling tcpkeepalive might be a workaround, but then, find my mac isn't working anymore also.

I too have this problem on 2 devices.

On a rMBP 15" late 2013 the battery drains multiple times faster than it used to during normal workloads. On a brand new MBA 2017 the battery drains 20-25% over night.

I've reset the SMC and NVRAM on both of them and upgraded to 10.14.1 but it doesn't help. The MBA is interesting because the first night after the resets it didn't drain almost at all, maybe 1-2% but the next night it went down 20%.

I'm in touch with AppleSupport, last night I was pleased to disable bluetooth as well as wifi while my MacBook sleeps with display closed on battery. This morning the battery drain was at 2%. Had my last call a few minutes ago, now I should let my MacBook sleep over night with only wifi disabled and report the results tomorrow back to AppleSupport.

Well... not the answer I liked, but they are really trying to get a fix. I'll keep you updated. For me, going back to High Sierra isn't an adequate solution, but that's only my opinion. Of course I tried, smc & pram reset, clean install, update to 10.14.1 etc. etc. - none of steps really fixed the battery draining. After I updated to 10.14.1 it was gone for about 1-2 days.

cheers,

Ole

I've got a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015), which has generally been fine. Upgraded to Mojave 10.14 without issues (as far as I can tell). However since upgrading to 10.14.1, my Mac is dead every morning (flat battery). Last night, I left the MBP in its protective sleeve, and this morning the bag was quite warm. The Mac's battery had completely drained overnight (from perhaps 70-80% charge). The day before, it I left it (closed) on my desk (at perhaps 30% charge), and the following morning there wasn't sufficient charge to run.

I think there is definitely a problem with 10.14.1. However, 10.14.0 seemed ok before...

i would say the issue your seeing is software related. you shouldnt be stuck like this, if you go to an apple store im sure theyd look at it for free at least.

im kind of disappointed in recent years with new product offerings and software issues ....

especially with prices for their new gear crossing over the ‘value’ threshold that i’d be willing to pay for ....

also lot of lagging in my MacBook for the first time.

I can't help you with the battery issue but regarding the lagging download and run Etrecheck. Copy and paste the results into your reply. Etrecheck is a diagnostic tool that was developed by one of the most respected users here in the ASC and recommended by Apple Support to provide a snapshot of the system and help identify the more obvious culprits that can adversely affect a Mac's performance.

Thing is...that "solution" is not acceptable. The fact is, even under those circumstances, Mojave is still eating up more battery than High Sierra...because if you revert to High Sierra and still make those same settings, such as disabling "Find My Mac," you're likely to get even more battery power out of High Sierra, see what I mean?

Yeah, I'm not disabling "Find My Mac." God forbid that thing ever walks, I want to track it. To me, if I have to disable a feature I've been using since it was introduced if it means getting battery usage near what I used to get, it's a bug, period.

The problem I'm having now -- after changing hibernate mode to 25, turning off the animations, turning off dark mode, turning off the day-to-night-to-day background, etc. -- is what someone else was posting about: I can let my 2015 MacBookPro sleep overnight without losing any battery power at all, but when I actually use it, it takes a while to go from 100% to 99%, but then the battery drainage increases more and more with each percent. In less than an hour I'm in the low 80%s but with High Sierra doing the same activities with the same apps, I'm still left with 97%.

Apple removed my previous comment because I had mentioned it would be good for this issue to be highlighted verbally etc - think all the comments on here are unfortunately not read by Apple support or their engineers.

Spoken to apple support over this issue numerous times, and I can tell you that they have no intention of fixing this issue (or fixing it anytime soon) as the response I got after they analysed data on my computer including me showing terminal logs etc was that it’s connecting to WiFi whilst asleep every 10mins to download or update things (I already highlighted this) when it shouldn’t and that I should “switch the WiFi off” and then they’ll do more data collecting etc.

In other words they can’t be bothered and even after me mentioning apps, notifications, Bluetooth, updates etc are all disabled for “sleep” mode and Being Dragged through erasing my hard drive and reinstalling Mojave etc because Apple support didn’t have a clue how to fix the issue either - essentially the engineers haven’t even found the temporary solution that has popped up on here.

Hoping this doesn’t turn out like the iPhone battery scam as I’ve never had an issue with my MacBook in the 3.5yrs I’ve had it. So I’ll be ****** if I loose it to a stupid piece of software! :(
