macOS Mojave battery drain

Just updated my OS to Mojave this morning and brought my laptop to work. It was on full charge when I left home. 2hrs after using it, the battery percentage was down to 40% which never happened before during any of my regular use. Also, the texts on the screen are blurry.

Same here. 2013 MBP Retina 13". Updated to Mojave yesterday and was fully charged when I closed the machine and took it home. Opened it this morning and the battery was completely drained.

Not sure why this is happening to some people.

I never shut my MBP down, always leaving it sleeping overnight and I have not experienced this.

The only possible explanation I can think of is if the mac for some reason failed to enter sleep mode.

I do not know how to downgrade to High Sierra, but I will tell how I did it.

I erased the whole SSD by accident. And I reboot my MacBook Pro 2018, found a global sign spinning there. I connected my Mac to wifi and it automatically download High Sierra for me, which was my open-box system. My hypothesis was that there may be some auto-recovery method out there in Apple's system which assists us to find out the original system installed in the macbook we use.

Anyway, that was how I got my High Sierra back, typing with High Sierra right now.

I updated MacBook Air to MacOS Mojave when it became available. In several days, my battery started die in 4-5 hours. Then, notification about battery health appeared(computer is pretty old so it is logical).

Now, it is alive only for 3 hours. Before new macOS, it was alive for at least 8 hours. Maximum capacity of the battery decreases rapidly. 2 days ago it was 4800 mAh, whereas now It is 4300 mAh.

Don’t want to become that Windows guy with charging cable tail...

I have the same issue. I haven't upgraded my MacBook Pro 2014 since Mavericks because I noticed that my Mac started to become sluggish and the battery drained a lot after going on Sierra. I have gone back to Mavericks after that since I get 8 hours usage out of my battery and everything is snappy on Mavericks. I have, however, decided to go on Mojave since I really like the new design and there are heaps of bug fixes and extra features compared to Mavericks. I must say that I was first pleasantly surprised that my MacBook is still extremely quick and snappy. I love the Dark Mode and there are heaps of new features that I love and haven't had on Mavericks. However, the battery life is terrible. The battery sometimes drains 25% overnight if I leave it on sleep mode. I didn't lose 1% with Mavericks for a whole week. I have noticed that that the battery drainage isn't too bad and lose about 1% overnight if I close all my applications. It's not a real solution since I like to have my programs open after waking up my Mac. Apple really has to sort this out and release an update. With normal usage I get half of my battery time compared to Mavericks. Around 4 hours. That's not good enough. I don't want to downgrade to Mavericks again since I really like Mojave, but the battery life is really a problem.

Well, I am completely baffled now. Thought the pmset -g would sort it out as I was putting to sleep only when there was nothing showing next to the sleep column, BUT, I am still loosing way too much battery on sleep. 8% in 4hours this morning and my pmset -g is showing the following;

System-wide power settings:

Currently in use:

lidwake 1

autopoweroff 1

standbydelayhigh 86400

autopoweroffdelay 28800

proximitywake 0

standby 1

standbydelaylow 10800

ttyskeepawake 1

hibernatemode 3

powernap 0

gpuswitch 2

hibernatefile /var/vm/sleepimage

Standby Battery Threshold 50

displaysleep 15

sleep 15

acwake 0

halfdim 1

tcpkeepalive 1

disksleep 10

I am no longer going to use sleep and will be turning my MacBook off whenever I am not using it
