macOS Mojave battery drain

Just updated my OS to Mojave this morning and brought my laptop to work. It was on full charge when I left home. 2hrs after using it, the battery percentage was down to 40% which never happened before during any of my regular use. Also, the texts on the screen are blurry.

MACBOOK AIR (13-INCH, 2017), macOS Mojave (10.14)

Hm... well, of course... I just waked up and didn't read the log carefully. ;-)

Could it be iCloud Drive, maybe? I run a little bit "special" config, all my dotfiles for command line applications are stored in iCloud Drive and sym-linked to my $HOME, I've got suspicion this may could be result in a heavier usage of iCloud. But, I run this setup since... Yosemite, I guess, without any issues.

Still annoying and unnecessary battery wear out.

Same here: Mid-2014 13" MBP. Shut lid yesterday with 100% charge. WiFi off (as I usually have access to a 1Gb wired ethernet connection). Upgraded from High Sierra to Mojave yesterday. I'd packed it ready for a three-day trip (without power adapter as I only reckoned I'd need it on for an hour or two at most - iPad Pro and iPhone are my main mobile tools). Opened lid this morning to update an app and noticed battery was down to 48%!!! Now on charge and will be switched off for trip (and power adapter taken along, too).

Apple need to fix this quickly or they'll be down to MS' service level (with all the problems associated with their latest Win10 update)...

I have the same issue. I charge my laptop to 100% and when I come back to it, its to about 40%. I used to be able to leave my laptop for days of not using it and coming back to the battery being reduced by maybe 20%. I went in and checked to see if there were push notifications running and it doesn't show. I am not sure what is causing this issue but I really hope they rectify it ASAP.

I just got off of a chat with an Apple advisor and she blamed it on the battery. This machine was purchased from Apple in March of 2017 (a little over a year's use) and I handle my devices and batteries with extreme care. The punch to the gut was that I would be fully responsible for replacing this battery. No talk of the fact that I just upgraded to Mojave... just that I would need to cough up the cash to get a new battery! ***, Apple? I noticed the machine was made in 2016. Could Apple be selling old machines with rotten batteries at full price? I am just so sick of this crap with them.

Okay, now it gets really weird.

Yesterday I shutdown my MacBook Pro before I went to bed.

Oct 26 01:45:26 com.apple.xpc.launchd[1] (com.apple.xpc.launchd.domain.system): System shutdown initiated by: shutdown.50727<-sessionlogoutd.50726<-launchd.1

Oct 26 07:04:34 localhost com.apple.xpc.launchd[1]: Early boot complete. Continuing system boot.

You see, my MacBook was turned off.

Last line from pmset -g log|grep -e " Sleep " -e " Wake "

2018-10-26 01:01:17 +0200 Wake Wake from Deep Idle [CDNVA] due to EC.LidOpen/Notification: Using AC (Charge:100%)

❮07:16❯ ~ $ pmset -g batt

Now drawing from 'Battery Power'

-InternalBattery-0 (id=4784227) 73%; discharging; 3:14 remaining present: true

It loses 25% battery while it was powered off?!? F*** off..

No I do not but since I posted that message I scheduled a support call with Apple who have confirmed that it looks like an installation failure & they are going to guide me through a back up (as I don’t have my external hard drive with me) & reinstall this evening. The guy I spoke to didn’t appear to know that there was a problem with this & I pointed out that there was over 18 pages of people discussing the problem on here. I will update later after I have done what they instruct me to

Hey, thanks very much for sharing this.

I have tried all the other potential solutions put forward and nothing worked (re-installed Mojave, turned off all updates etc.) so gonna give your suggestion a go, I have to say it sounds most feasible and it'll; be my last option, failing this I'd probably just power off my MacBook when not in use to preserve battery (it's like going back to a windows laptop).

I'll report back tomorrow.

Thanks,

Naz
