iPod gets hot when I charge it

My iPod touch 6th generation 128GB Version 12.0 - gets hot to the touch when I charge it. Wondering if

this is going to shorten it's life span. Is this happening for any one else?

iPod touch, iOS 12

It's a matter of how hot. 'Too hot to handle' is a benchmark. Is it too hot for you to comfortably hold? If so then you should get it checked out. But if it's just really warm but you can still hold it, then it's probably fine. Batteries do get hot when they are charged.

That said, if you do feel in doubt or are worried, then go ahead and make an appointment at your local apple store or authorized service provider and have them check it out.
