Mojave Mail stationary missing

Hello,

I just upgraded to Mojave and when I went to write an email, all of my mail stationary files are now gone... Is there a way to get them and this feature back or did I just make a monumental mistake in upgrading?

The Stationery in Mail has been removed in Mojave (Apple didn't explain the reason). Custom stationery files are still available in the user's library folder ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Application Support/Mail/Stationery/Apple/Contents/Resources/Custom/Contents/Resources/.

If you still have a backup copy of High Sierra or lower it seems it's possible to revert back this feature:

On-line there're various services available to build “rich” e-mails (e.g. newsletters). I name just two: BEE (https://beefree.io/) and TOPOL (Topol.io - beautiful e-mail editor and builder). Usually free and paid versions are available.

Another option, if you're familiar with coding, is to build the e-mail using free e-mail frameworks available on-line. Again, I name just two: MJML (https://mjml.io/) and ZURB Foundation (https://foundation.zurb.com/emails/email-templates.html).

Regardless the service/tool used, if you still want to rely on Mail to send the generated e-mail code you can preview it in Safari and then compose the e-mail by sharing the page invoking File -> Share -> Email This Page.

I've tried to access the files as normal via the normal directory:

~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Application Support/Mail/Stationery/Apple/Contents/Resources/Custom/Contents/Resources/

I used to be able to open them to view/edit the code via a text editor or Adobe Dreamweaver. But I now get an error message that access was denied. Does anyone else experience this? I need to get the code back in order to move my templates to a new service...

Internally, your custom Mail stationery is just HTML with inline Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) including some proprietary Apple operators unique to Apple Mail. How do you intend to transmit this HTML/CSS content in any user friendly format from a text editor session?

I can open the internal content.html file in Safari, and it looks correct. When I tell Safari to Share : Email This Page, it is tossed into Apple Mail as a link. When I change the Send Web Content: Web Page, the stationery text is present, but only the top and bottom graphics are shown, which is an omission from the Safari view.

I found an easy way to deal with this:

  • open a message sent using one of your stationery templates,
  • click on "send again"
  • delete the specifics not included in the original stationery
  • save the result as a draft
  • create a new folder (I call it "templates")
  • move the draft message to the new templates folder

from then on, all you need to do is to click on your template in the templates folder and "send again" - edit as desired before processing (saving as draft or sending)
