I recently updated my macbook air from macos sierra(skipped high sierra) to macos mojave everything was fine but now i couldn't search in my pdfs in preview app it is always showing no results used to work fine on sierra just a day before

BTW, in order to get search working again, you have to close the window (command + w) and reopen on the pdf. Closing Preview all together (command + q) and reopening the pdf doesn't work. This is indeed bizarre.
I have the same issue. CMD + W only works sometimes. Spoke to Apple Support today. Two different people told me they were unaware of the issue and gave no ETA on a fix.
Interesting. The workaround works 100% of the time for me with PDFs that can't be searched the first time. I haven't checked every single one of course. But I have checked a couple dozen.

I recently upgraded to Mojave and just discovered this same issue... thought the PDF had somehow become corrupted. Closing the PDF and reopening fixed it. Oh, Apple... 😝
Just replying here to say that I had the same problem and it was driving me crazy. Command-W and reopening the file fixed it for me.
I'm in high sierra. It appears that pdf's downloaded since high sierra are not searchable, even after open/close/open. Please repeat any work arounds that I may have missed.

I have this issue too with Mojave. Sometimes when I open a PDF, search function does not work at all. I close the PDF then re-open it, then suddenly search will work. Ridiculous and annoying.
If I close and reopen one file in Preview, then other open files also become searchable!
