mojave installation failed

I have attempted to install Mojave on my mid 2012 macbook Pro, after I have checked compatibility and all is OK.

The download appears OK, and when I proceed with install it takes a while and then reboots as expected, but the reboot is back to High Sierra.

I have cleaned up the drive, deleted the Mojave downloads and tried again, but with the same result - any ideas ?

Hey Mike,

Thanks for following up with that information. Just a few more thoughts, do you have any third-party RAM installed? If so, remove any that has been added and see if that helps.

If not, try creating a test user account on the MacBook and then download and install Mojave using this test user account. Here's those steps to create a new user account:

Use another account for testing

If another user account is already set up on your Mac, you can simply log out of your account (Apple menu > Log Out) and log in with the other account. But the best way to test is with a newly created account:

  1. Choose Apple menu () > System Preferences, then click Users & Groups.
  2. Click User uploaded file, then enter an administrator name and password.
  3. Click the Add button (+) below the list of users.
  4. Complete the fields shown for a Standard or Administrator account, then click Create Account (or OK).

If you plan to test with any of the documents in your own account, make those documents available to the new account. Drag them to the Shared folder of the Users folder on your hard drive (~/Users/Shared). You can then move them to other folders after you log in as the new user.

Then log out of your account and log in with the new account:

  1. Choose Apple menu > Log out.
  2. At the login window, log in with the name and password of the new account. If you're also asked to sign in with an iCloud account or Apple ID, skip that step.

If you're able to install Mojave without issues, you can delete the test user account by using those same steps above except click the Remove button (-) for the user account.

Keep us posted. Cheers.

Good morning onemc!

Thanks for reaching out about the issue your MacBook Pro is having regarding updating to macOS Mojave. I'll be happy to help out.

Do you have any external hard drives, audio devices or other peripherals connected to the MacBook when it restarts for the installation? If so, be sure to unplug these devices and try again.

Also try repairing the disk using these steps here: Repair a disk using Disk Utility on Mac - Apple Support Once complete, try installing the update again.

Keep us updated. Cheers!
