VIP mailbox deletion in Mail

I have one VIP mailbox. Unfortunately, I have no sent or received email from that person. Reading the instructions for VIP it seems that I must have some email from that person. Since that email does not work, how can I delete the VIP mailbox?

iMac, macOS High Sierra (10.13.1), Mid 2010 27 inch iMac

Remove the VIP status from the contact you have marked as a VIP.

The person who shows up as VIP is not in my Contacts on my iMac. She does show up in Contacts on my iPhone. I've looked at all the possible data entries on the iphone under her name and do not see any VIP entry possible. I'm going to try to delete her from my iPhone and see if that helps.



Nope, deleting the contact from my iPhone did not help.


I'm going to stop and restart mail without rebooting.

I have just re-scrutinized all of the Mail menu items and see no mention of VIP.


I completely turned off and restarted my iPhone. Thontact is still gone from Contacts on my iPhone. It is still present in Mail on my iMac.


So far, the problem has not budged one inch.
