Transfer video from firewire video camera to my 2017 MacBook Pro (2017) with usb-c ports?

I believe a minimum of 3 cables are required.

First a 4 pin FireWire to 9 pin FireWire cable, the 4 pin end goes into your camcorder.See eBay or Amazon, not too expensive.

Next a FireWire to Thunderbolt adaptor

Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter - Apple (UK)

Then Thunderbolt 3 (USB-3) to Thunderbolt adaptor.

Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter - Apple

These last 2 cables are quite expensive .Available from Apple and maybe a tad cheaper from Amazon??

USB ports are usually used with file based cameras rather than tape based cameras. Tape based cameras use firewire. Here's a link that explains what cable setups to use:
