Series 1 Watch with watchOS 3.2.2 cannot pair

When I try pair this watch, it tells me: Update Your Apple Watch. "To finish pairing, your Apple Watch must be running the latest version of watchOS."

If I choose "Update Now", it takes a bit, then tells me that watchOS 3.2.2 is the latest version and the watch is up to date. Then, my only option is to exit the setup and unpair the watch.

I've tried this on 2 different iPhones and got the same result.

Any ideas?

Hi there, Perlguy99!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities and thank you for asking about updating your Apple Watch.

I'd first suggest that we identify your Apple Watch model.

Identify your Apple Watch

WatchOS 5 is available for Series 1 and above. While it's possible that your Apple Watch is 1st Generation, it should still be able to update to watchOS 4.

Please follow the steps in this article.

Update your Apple Watch

If you're still unable to update your Apple Watch, please Contact Apple Support .

Best wishes.
