Bitdefender yes or no

I published my Etrecheck report in another thread yesterday to hear whether my Mac is safe for upgrade to Mojave. Somebody was so kind to check the report and commented that I should remove my Bitdefender since it is crap for the iMac. Below I found a report inside Bitdefender for the past year and I was wondering what would have happened with my iMac if Bitdefender would not have found and cleaned them. All these virus reports were based on junkmail received in both Apple Mail and Thunderbird. Thanks to hear your comments.

I believe the majority of these are Windows-only and would not run on your Mac anyway. There are no viruses that affect the Mac, but the biggest threat now is other forms of malware. I do not recommend any of the so-called anti-virus products for the Mac because they have a tendency to interfere with the built-in Mac security mechanisms, and the normal functionality of the operating system. They also have been known to mark valid operating system files as infections, the removal of which may force a reinstallation of the operating system.

Having said that, if you are frequently sending/receiving documents (e.g. MS Office, etc.) to/from Windows users, and you want to break the chain of passing infected files onto others, then a quality anti-virus tool may be acceptable for that reason alone. Otherwise, I usually recommend Malwarebytes to sweep and remove Mac specific malware.
