Why I have to pay Apple Music to play my personal library?

Why I have to pay Apple Music to play my personal library? I spent a lot of money in compact disks. I copy my compact disks to iTunes and I can't play it in my Homepod, asking Siri. Also, my Apple TV music App, just have the songs that I bought in iTunes. I can't play my downloaded compact disks. Any option?

iTunes Music will let you play any of your music via Siri for £25 p.a. or the local equivalent. Siri only becomes available if your own content is matched or uploaded to Apple servers. Then you can play your own content on HomePod independently of your computer or other devices. You don't need a subscription unless you want the additional benefits it provides.

You can AirPlay any content to HomePod. It can natively play from your purchase history, or your iCloud Music Library if you have a subscription to either Apple Music or iTunes Match. Apple Music is more expensive, but allows you access to almost all of the iTunes Store catalog to use for as long as you have an active subscription. See Use Siri to play music or podcasts - Apple Support for details.

All your copied songs can be played to Homepod free via Airplay, so no, you do not have to pay to play via Homepod.

BUT.. if you want full SIRI control of song search, playlists, etc. you DO have to pay for Apple Music acct $10/mo. or Apple Match $2/mo.

Those accounts link all your songs to the Cloud where Siri will do all it's functions. Any Apple PURCHASED songs also have this full Siri function and access, but there is only 1 Purchased playlist. Hope that helps.

(I'm assuming you have 1 Homepod. 2 Homepods for stereo adds other playback problems from a Mac's output.)
