iMac 2017 bluetooth keyboard and trackpad lose connection

I've had the 2017 21.5" iMac for a little over a year. In the past month or two both the apple bluetooth keyboard and trackpad lose connection and it is often difficult to get them to reconnect aside from a computer restart/shut down. Nothing has changed in my house, I don't have any new wireless devices to clog up the airways. Anyone else having this issue with the bluetooth on the iMac being flakey? I'm not even sure if it is the iMac's bluetooth or the two devices bluetooth which is having the issue.

I figured maybe it was a software issue and an update to 10.14 would fix it, but alas even during this past week I've had connections issues almost daily.

iMac, macOS High Sierra (10.13.1)

There are couple of things we can try

we can try reset NVRAM

Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac - Apple Support

also try to unpair and pair the keyboard and the mouse

also make sure that there is no interference with other devices that you have at home

also you can try to use this useful article
