Spotlight-window immediately disappears after finding results

Sinds updating (to Safari 12 and some Apple security-updates) Spotlight is not functioning as it should.

The Spotlight-window disappears the moment results are found.

I still can find results in My iMac by typing in the search-field in a Finder window though...

I did try to "restore" Spotlight in System-preferences by isolating the disk and external disks by adding them to the "Privacy-tab" and than remove them. After indexing the problem still remains.

Is there a solution for my problem?

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. Please post back on whether or not this worked. Also try the Safe Mode. Please post back on whether or not this worked.

Isolating an issue by using another user account

Safe Mode - About

Safe Mode Startup – El Capitan. also Sierra

If it works in the Safe Mode, try running this program when booted normally and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.

It worked!

Spotlight-window is now showing search results without disappearing.

In the past I already created an extra admin-account, - so I logged in and noticed Spotlight was OK on that account (I never came up with that idea...😊).

Next I did a "safe boot" (Safe Mode).

After that I restarted and dowloaded Etrecheck and ran it.

It noticed some old "plist"-files (categorized as "Malware") Etrechech found - the original applications linked to those "plist"-files I deleted years ago... - ...so I deleted those "plist"-files and a plugin;

com.bittorrent.uTorrent.plist (2015)

com.veoh.VeohPlugin.plist (2014)

com.veoh.webplayer.startup.plist (2009)

VeohTV2Version.plugin (2009)

Restarted again...

Spotlight is OK!

Thank you Eric Root!
