The volume of the alarm on my iPhone XS won’t go down?

I recently upgraded from an iPhone 6 to an iPhone XS. I always have my phone on silent and therefore used to keep my volume set on half permanently. This used to be the perfect volume for my alarm on the iPhone 6.

Ever since upgrading to the iPhone XS however, I am blasted awake by my alarm, which sounds like it’s coming out at full volume. I thought that perhaps the speakers on the iPhone XS were better/louder, so I tried adjusting down beyond halfway to no result. I have adjusted the volume on the side down to two bars as of last night and it doesn’t seem to make a difference - it still seems to ring as loud as ever.

Why does my alarm seem to ring at any volume it wants when I specifically have the volume turned down and how do I fix this?

Hi willowtrees,

Thanks for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. I understand that the alarm on your iPhone is going off at a higher volume than you prefer, and using the volume buttons on your iPhone doesn't seem to make any adjustments to the alarm volume. I know it's important to have your alarm set at the volume you prefer; I'd like to help. Take a look at the steps below to adjust your alarm volume; please note that if you'd like to use the volume buttons to adjust alarm sounds, "Change with Buttons" must be enabled:

Set the alarm's volume

Tap Settings > Sounds & Haptics. Under Ringers And Alerts, drag the slider left or right. As you drag, an alert will play, so you can hear how the volume changes. Using the Volume buttons on the side of your iPhone won't change the alarm's volume unless you turn on Change with Buttons.

How to set and manage alarms on your iPhone

If you're using Bedtime on your iPhone, use these steps to adjust the alarm volume:

How to change the settings

  1. Open the Clock app and tap the Bedtime tab.
  2. Tap Options in the top-left corner.
  3. Here's what you can change:
    • Choose which days your Wake alarm goes off. Your alarm goes off on days that are orange.
    • Set when you're reminded to go to bed.
    • Choose a Wake Up Sound for your alarm.
    • Change how loud the alarm is.
  4. Tap Done.
Use Bedtime to track your sleep on your iPhone

Best Regards.
