Notification Centre Weather Widget Slow to Update

Since the update to Mojave I've noticed the Weather Widget is very slow to update it's information when opening Notification Centre, that also includes displaying the town, I have checked that Location Services is enabled for Weather.

If left open it will eventually update as below, but this can take anything from 1 to 3 minutes, it doesn't appear to affect the weather summary under the date though.

When the Centre is closed for a short time and then subsequently reopened the previous Weather data is missing, it's as though the whole process has to start again.

If I add a location manually with the "+", that does populate the weather data instantly but I've noticed on subsequent openings it's data also fails to update, but this time instead of a blank I see old information instead.

So, is anyone else experiencing this "delayed" behaviour, does anyone have any ideas or seen it under previous OS's, I personally have only had this occur under iOS and for that to get resolved an update was required.

I'm a little wary to say this, but the Weather widget updating issue appears "fixed", but I'm not exactly sure which of my tinkering is responsible, or even if it hasn't just started working on it's own accord.

I decided to remove to trash the following files/folders from the locations "~/Library/Preferences" and "~/Library/Containers":

com.apple.WeatherService.plist (a Preference file)

com.apple.weather (a Container folder)

com.apple.WeatherKitService (a Container folder)

I then restarted the iMac, went to System Preferences/Security & Privacy and clicked on "Privacy" to toggle off and on "Weather".

Restarted iMac again and noticed "com.apple.weather" had been recreated, so decided to move the original three files/folders back again (I had kept them in Trash) and restarted iMac (last time).

Lastly, I opened Notification Centre (three bars top right) and added my "Town" by selecting "i", this for the first time also saw a red circle with the minus for it's subsequent removal, clicked "done".

Weather now displays every time I open Notification Centre, it's always updated and more importantly in remains on the view last set ie. single temp or 6hr/5day (which it has never done before, always going back to single temp even when running High Sierra, I always had to click to see the forecast).

I'm not sure what part of the above got things going, doubt it's the file/folder juggling (I put things back because I basically got cold feet regarding there removal, even with one being recreated), but the messing may have kickstarted something, that's why I've included it in this post.

I believe adding a location but seeing the red circle is the real fix coupled with turning off/on the Privacy setting.

Anyhow, a long winded summary of last nights antics that if you decide to try (or try part of) could get your Weather widget going as well.

Surprise, surprise, it’s still working as previously posted, just got in and copied a few files to an external back drive, opened Notifications and Weather updated instantly, it remained on the hourly/daily view. I even tried a reboot just to double check, and again all as above.

I have noticed now when I login to the desktop I see the location indicator in the menu bar for a few seconds, if I then open Notifications that indicator shows again, that never happened previously, at least not immediately, the Notifications Centre had to sit open for a minute or so before indicator appeared and Weather updated.

I just hope the next update doesn’t **** up what ever I’ve unwittingly done.

It’s certainly a strange one, whether my messing about (blindly) has kickstarted the process going again, or like you have found, the system just needed a little time to settle down, who knows.

Now if I could just find out why I’m still missing the “paper clip” for attachments in my Mail’s Inbox since Sept 2016 I would have a perfect system, mind you, suppose that would just be boring 😉

Hum, have not seen a "paper clip" in the Inbox for ages. My wife uses a Win 10 and uses a mail client composing messages in HTML. Any type of attachment is always Embedded in the message. Any attachments from others, especially PDF are also embedded.

Thinking Apple has changed things around since Sierra, HS and now Mojave

You should create a post if you have an issue with Mail. FWIW, I see the paperclip in normal view but in "classic layout" I have to select an email to see the paperclip in the preview pane.

The comment was ment to be a little tongue in cheek, hence the winking smilie, sorry for the confusion. Saying that, thanks for the heads up regarding views, will give it a try when next at the Mac, but I don’t hold much hope.

This issue has been going on far too long for a fix I believe, also it only affects the Inbox, and namely for messages after Sept 2016. Messages prior to that date all show the clip, as do any Sent messages.

Because off this odd mix ie. it’s not one thing or the other, I’ve just accepted it’s a “feature”, and lastly, I’m still using POP, and it’s the pop server side that’s gone this way, a coincidence, not sure but very suspicious.

Anyhow, thanks for trying, and if it’s the only remaining issue in Mojave I am still a very happy bunny, well done Apple for getting the OS this well sorted.

That would match the date when I first noticed this problem, namely a couple of OS’s back would be late 2016, but in my reply to Dialabrain, I’m still using POP which I believe is the real reason behind this issue, incoming messages (pop server) have issue, outgoing messages (smtp server) don’t, and isn’t smtp still used by a IMAP setup!

Thanks for your thoughts.
