"get info" not working

Hi,

I changed to OS Sierra 10.12.6 on my MacBook Pro in September. Since then my "get info" (short cut- "command i") does not work. For example, when I want to lock an icon that contains an internet short cut to my desk top, I select the icon, and press "command i". Instead of opening the dialog box so I can lock it, (like I was able to do in the past) what happens is all the icons on my desktop momentarily disappear, then reappear. No box opens. I've also tried select the "get info" instead of using the short cut and get the same results. Any ideas as to why or what I can do to fix this? I appreciate the help.

Does the same thing happen in the Safe Mode?

Safe Mode - About

Safe Mode Startup – El Capitan. also Sierra

If it works in the Safe Mode, try running this program when booted normally and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.

Etrecheck – System Information

Long shot.

Might be a corrupt .plist.

Do a backup, preferably 2 backups on 2 separate drives.

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.

Re-launch Finder by restarting the computer and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop. Then reset your preferences as desired.

If the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

Hi,

Thanks for the response. No, I didn't assign the shortcut to another application. I did try your suggestion of clicking once on the icon and pressing option+command+i and get the same results, all my desktop icons momentarily disappear, the reappear again. I have not changed anything on my computer since upgrading to Sierra.

Thanks for the suggestion....any other ideas would be appreciated as this is so frustrating since it used to work perfectly.
