I am trying to connect my iMac to mobile broadband using a ZTE MF823. The device connects and appears in the network settings as USB modem. I can also connect to the homepage and adjust the settings and the modem stats that it is connected to the network with a 4g / LTE connection. However when I open safari it cant connect to the internet. Am I missing a step?

I just have plugged it in and see it come up as a usb modem in the network preferences. The usb dongle doesn't produce a wifi hotspot.
I can connect to the internet through my adsl router.
As I said I can access the usb dongle homepage and it says it is connected to the mobile network.
Thanks. That sounds exactly what is wrong. I thought maybe a problem with the Mac as if isn’t directing the connection.
The USB modem is an ZTE MF823 and the drivers / install was too old to work on the latest OS X. I couldn’t find any new either. ZTE is a Chinese company, will give them a shout but don’t think they have a big customer support base.
Have you set up a WiFi network using the modem? Can anything else connect to the Internet?
It sounds like the modem is connected to a network, but isn't sending out a signal you can connect to. Try going to the manufacturer's web site to see if you can find installation/setup instructions.
