iphone Xs and Xs Max will connect but can’t transmit any data via 802.11AC wifi both 2.4 and 5 ghz

I purchased an iPhone Xs last Sunday than swapped it for a Xs Max. Both have exact same issue, they connect but transmit zero data on 802.11ac networks 2.4 and 5 ghz. I can get it to connect to my 802.11n and no issues. Very frustrating and I’ve seen no updates.

Some of the stories online state degraded performance, outside of actually connecting and obtaining an IP address, I get zero performance. It’s not degraded...zero data transmits.

Hi jeffjank33,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. From your post, it looks like you may be experiencing an issue with multiple iOS devices on your Wi-Fi network.

While it sounds like you're able to connect, the steps here are still going to be relevant for the issue you're experiencing, found in the article titled If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won’t connect to a Wi-Fi network . The steps that are likely to be most relevant for your situation are below:

Restart

Try restarting your iOS device, router, and cable or DSL modem. To restart your router or modem, unplug it, then plug it back in.

After you restart each device, see if you fixed the issue.

Still can’t connect?

Reset your Network Settings. Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you’ve used before.

Get more help

  • If you're connected to a Wi-Fi network but you can’t get online, try to use your Wi-Fi network on other devices. If you can’t get online using your other devices, there might be a service outage. Call your cable company or internet provider for help.
  • Try connecting to a Wi-Fi network in a different location. If your device can connect, you need to get help with your Wi-Fi network. If your device can’t connect to any Wi-Fi networks, contact Apple.
  • Update your Wi-Fi router with the latest firmware and make sure that the router supports your Apple product. For more information, contact the router's manufacturer.

Testing on another network would be a great way narrow things down, especially since this seems to have happened with more than one iOS device.

I hope this helps get you connected successfully.

Take care.
