Gigabit ethernet won't connect at Gigabit speed on apple tv 4k

Hi

The Issue i'm having is that the Apple TV will not connect at 1 gbps, it only connects at 10/100mbps on my Netgear Prosafe GS724Tv4 managed business switch.

I have created a new network consisting of the following

1: Netgear Prosafe GS724Tv4 at the heart of the system.

2: all cables are cat 7 purchased moulded under 3M from Amazon

3: connections to the switch are

Port 1 Sinology NAS 918+ 1Gbps

Port 3 Apple TV 4K 100mbit (will not connect at 1gbps only 100mbit as indicated by the lights on the switch and switch web interface) There is no option to fix the speed at 1gbps on the managed switch like other ports. Different ports and cables make no difference to the connection speed of the Apple TV 4K.

All other 1 gbps devices connect at 1gbps to any port, only the Apple TV4 k fails to connect at 1gbps

4: Port 24 Wan (from virgin media @ 380mbit package using Asus DSL-AC88U

5: tried 4 other switches and routers ALL FAIL to connect at Gigabit speed.

6: If I use the wifi on the Apple TV 4K I get a speed of 380mbit

I am trying to eliminate wifi in my house as much as possible so this is not an option for this over price piece of disappointing kit.

Speedtest on tvOS on my Apple TV 4K shows (407/40.4 just now) that I’m getting the 400/40 that my ISP sold me.

As 400 Mbps is more that 100 Mbps, that qualifies for the gigabit ethernet interface, as the steps are 10/100/1000/10,000.

VLC’s remote playback functionality lets me calculate a LAN transfer speed that is similarly well over 300 Mbps.

I can’t say about your Apple TV unit, but mine doesn’t show the limitations that you conclude from your LED lights.

Do you dare take it to a professional 3rd party to have them test it? What if they say it performs as expected for gigabit?

Or what if they say, it is actually not a 4K, but a 4th gen., known to have 100BASE-T Ethernet.

All this doesn’t mean much for watching actual TV content, as the iTunes Store bitrates are pretty high compared to the competition, and Apple’s content is said to require 25 Mbps tops.
