Mojave time machine back up failing

Since installing 10.14 have not been able to complete a full backup using time machine to external drive. All disks check out on disk utility first aid both under OS and stand alone utility under recovery. Have erased and reformatted the external drive. Still no success. Backup begins and runs up to about 80GB ok, then fails. Restart by "back up now" continues for about 500MB and then fails again. My full backup is about 900GB so I am running unprotected.

I believe this is a Mojave problem, not a drive problem.

Any ideas?

I use that app as well. I will format my "work around" partition to a standard journaled case-insensitive

partition, delete that app and see if it works. fingers crossed. 😎

Reverting to High Sierra would help me with another problem, but I don't know how to do that. Are there instructions somewhere?

Using Vallum Firewall which is outgoing. Assume that others (Little Snitch, Hand Off, etc) would behave the same, but might not. Just assuming, haven't tested.

Yes it is the same. But note that in finder you see 2 folders with same name.

If you « ls » in a shell, you will see that one of the 2 folders contains a « ? »

I removed the app, then reinstalled and had only one folder. I then formatted back to the regular not case sensitive and am trying to back up.

I am backing up now and it says 18 hours for a full backup. If it works which I hope it does I will at least have one backup. I contacted the developer for App Cleaner & Uninstaller Pro.
