Since upgrading to Mojave I've been having problems with the bluetooth connection to my Beats Studio 3 headphones. The audio continuously cuts in and out. It's so bad that the option is to use the audio cable to connect. Has anyone else had this issue with Mojave and their bluetooth wireless headphones, and does anyone have a real solution?

I actually found the solution to my problem:
Mojave was falling back on SBC (low energy bad quality bluetooth standard) instead of higher quality AAC or AptX.
To force use of AAC to the system you can enter use terminal:
sudo defaults write bluetoothaudiod "Enable AAC codec" -bool true
To force use of AptX to the system enter:
sudo defaults write bluetoothaudiod "Enable AptX codec" -bool true

UPDATE: Found the updater, ran it, discovered I have the latest firmware already. Which means of course that this isn't a solution to my particular problem.
Yep. Every Bluetooth audio device I connect to is now choppy, and HIGHLY annoying. I too have resorted to a direct connection with these devices.
My audio system it’s not working after connect with my JBL headphone via Bluetooth.

Beatsx no longer even show as an option in audio or bluetooth on 2015 MacBook Air. No chance I am updating my 2018 MacBook Pro.

Same for me - upgraded to 10.14.1 and have done a system reset and yet my Beatsx will not connect to my MacBook Air.
Bluetooth has been pretty much useless since Mojave, clean install, SMC reset - no change.

This did not fix the problem, in fact there was no indication that the SMC was reset following these steps. Guess I will be downgrading to Sierra.
I had same problem, sound over Bluetooth with my Powerbeats Wireless and Sony SRS-XB3. The sound was really bad. It started after I made a fresh install of MacOS Mojave.
Have tried all the above, nothing seems to help. My BBT Pro headphones keep switching on and off. The odd time it stays on, the audio only comes through one channel (left). My Sony 1000XM2 do connect, however they sound as a sixties transistor radio.
The strange thing, though, I didn't have this issue immediately after upgrading to Mojave. I don't know what triggered it, though. Perhaps a smaller upgrade later on?

Here's a solution: 1) go to System Preferences/Bluetooth: 'Remove' the blue tooth headset on the list. 2) Next, Pair your
headset; 3) click the 'connect' button to the right of the headset's name.
