Just downloaded iOS 12.0 for both my brand new iPhone X and my older iPad Air and now the choice at iTunes to "automatically sync when this iPhone is connected" has been greyed out. And, NO, I DO NOT have "prevent iDevice from synching automatically" enabled (or checked).
Any ideas?

Well, I DID uninstall, then RE-install, iTunes as part of my efforts to solve the problem BEFORE I posted my post so I should have had the most recent version of iTunes. But this particular installation re-directed me to the Microsoft Store in order for me to download it, which is not how I normally download iTunes and perhaps THIS was the reason for my failure. Because I RE-INSTALLED iTunes this AM and it installed itself in the usual manner and this solved my problem.
