Mail Problems

My spouse has done something to change the way emails display. It used to be when you clicked on a an email in would open in the viewer. Now you have to double click to open in its own window. Nothing in mail preferences seems to change this. Please let me know what else I can try.

Mac Pro, macOS High Sierra (10.13.6)
