iPhone Xs Max can't Sync iTunes while iPhone 6s works fine

Tried to restore backup from my old iPhone 6S plus to new iPhone Xs Max by sync iTunes on iMac (OS 10.13.6 iTunes 12.8.0), but somehow my iTunes can't read iPhone Xs Max but be able to read iPhone 6S fine.

I've tried to follow the link If iTunes doesn't recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod - Apple Support, and was able to see iPhone Xs Max in USB Device Tree but don't know how to "uninstall third-party security software".

I'm wondering If my computer is able to read iPhone 6S then why couldn't it read new Xs Max? Is it really due to the security software issue? Or what should I do to fix the problem? Thx

I've contact Apple support via chat and here is the solution.

Reinstall (no need to uninstall) iTunes 12.8 on Mac via iTunes - Upgrade to Get iTunes Now - Apple

Then disconnect your phone, close iTunes, then reopen and reconnect your phone.

After that I saw a software update window pop up and after install that I can sync my iPhone Xs Max to my iTunes.

I fixed mine by using the cable that came with the box... its weird. I used 4 cables 2 original from previous iPhones and 2 from aftermarket and they worked fine with my iPhone 6 plus but not my iPhone XS max. 😕..good luck!

I just used an aftermarket cable and now it worked also. I guess the update IOS 12.0.1 update fixed this issue?!? i bet tomorrow if I plug again with an after cable in, it won't work again... *shrugs my shoulders*

I experienced this issue too when I was using macOS High Sierra, and updated my iPhone 7plus to iOS 12.

again I had the issue with iPhone XS max with IOS 12.1 on my Mac with macOS Mojave.

on both occasions I had to update both of my systems (iPhone and Mac) to their latest version. I came to realize that iTunes recognized my new iPhone only when both systems were updated to their latest versions. I helped me.

Such a simple solution to this problem comparing to the others fore mentioned. But WHY??? The weird thing is it was working with the other cables before, but all the sudden Problem.... Apple F...... it again.

so I used an after market cable on my iPhone xs max. It works now connecting to iTunes...it wasn't working before for me. so I have Mac Os Mojave 10.14.1 with iTunes 12.9.1.4 with my iPhone iOS 12.1. Phew...

I have the same problem but with Mojave 10.14 and with itune 12.9. It sees my iphone 6 plus fine, but not my iphone xs max. Must be a bug they need to fix!

I switched to the new lighting cable from the box and it worked... it was weird. My iPhone 6 plus works on the older cable, *im scratching my head*

I’m having the same problem my Xs max I’ve tried all cables and won’t read

All I get is to do a install and it’s not work ??

Finally this has been the only solution that has worked for me. I've updated Mac OS, I've changed other settings on my Mac, and in iTunes and on my phone. Finally an answer!
