Guided Access disable screen sleep

Mirror Display Auto-Lock is available in iOS 12.1.1.

It is nested under the Guided Access Settings.

Settings -> General -> Accessibility -> Guided Access -> Mirror Display Auto-Lock

I was having the same issue and figured it out. Apologies if someone already mentioned this above.

Go go into settings -> General -> Accessability -> Guided Access -> Mirror Display Auto-Lock

Toggle that on and you’re good to go. No more sleeping in guided access mode.

I faced this problem too, and fixed.

Step 1. Got to Setting -> Display & Brightness

Step 2. Click on Auto Lock and Select NEVER

Step 3. Got to Setting -> General -> Accessibility -> Guided Access

Step 4. Turn ON Accessibility Shortcut. (This will Mirror your Display Setting in Guided Mode)

Now Start the Guided Mode and your Screen will not be Off.

So I'm also negatively impacted by this but I've got some potential good news...

Through my research, it looks like it *might* be fixed in version 12.1.1.

I'm pulling this information from this post I found:

"In the latest developer beta of iOS 12.1.1, Apple has added a new setting under Guided Access called Mirror Display Auto-Lock. "When it is turned on, Guided Access will obey the Auto-Lock setting in Display & Brightness. When off, Guided Access will turn off the screen after 20 minutes of inactivity." In testing, this does appear to address the issue, allowing the screen to remain on indefinitely. "

Now the debate on whether or not to install the beta version vs. waiting begins...

This turned out to revert to not working within 24 hours. My new fix was to add to DEP as a supervised device in Meraki and utilize single application mode. I guess guided access is done until Apple fixes IOS 12.

I found a workaround on this issue.

1- Make the devices supervised

2- Install a Meraki (MDM) profile on it

3- Activate single app mode

This will make sure the devices only can use one app. The only issue with this set-up is that the screen won't dim anymore

I think I may have found the solution.

Go to settings > General > Accessibility > Guided Access

Once there at the bottom there is a mirror display auto lock. Make sure that is on. I was struggling with this and just found this setting.

The answer for me was to disable the Screen Time application under settings. It all now works correctly!

It seems like iOs 12.1.1 fixes the issue? At my end it does!

I'm having the same trouble as nrathbun. I have an app I run in Guided Access in a public space and I want to keep the screen from sleeping. I checked all the settings for Display & Brightness, adjusted settings in Screen Time, even turning it on and off with the same result. I also tested on a different model of iPad running iOS 12. After checking this forum I reinstalled the operating system as per becky_s22's suggestion and still have the same result, the screen sleeps after 10-15 minutes but does not lock the iPad as a home button press wakes the screen and I'm still in the app in guided access mode. This appears to be an issue with iOS 12 as I have other iPads running iOS 11 in guided access with no problems. Any information/suggestions would be appreciated.

we are Social Events and we had this problem too, we fix it simply by playing a video out of frame without sound;

This code is available only if you are on iOS 12 or more.

if#available(iOS12, *)

On the player we added this property :

player.preventsDisplaySleepDuringVideoPlayback = true

I launch this video every 10 minutes and release it ...until it is needed to play it again.

It is not a very good fix, but it works....I hope it will help you too !

I see that you've set up your company's iPad devices using Guided Access. The problem is, after updating them to iOS 12, the lock screen had been engaged after you left them on overnight, and you'd like for this to stop. I'm happy to help.

Adjust the brightness on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch -- Go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-lock, and set that to "Never".

Guided Access mode off all day has definitely kept our displays on, can confirm the issue is somewhere present there in iOS 12. Our SE seemed to indicate to manage around this in our MDM by removing/disabling all other apps and functions and abandoning Guided Access or Single App Mode as Apple does not love either feature. Take that for what you will, hopefully they will actually fix the problem though, so flex your muscle elsewhere if this is a problem for you and you have some pull with Apple.
