Guided Access disable screen sleep

We have 9 ipads that we use on our production floor, we keep them in guided access because lets face it, we don't want them messing around instead of working. Mid last week, I took them down because we were doing inventory and I updated all of them to IOS 12, and when I came in yesterday morning, I noticed that the screens were turned off. Guided Access should not put the screens to sleep, but they are. Is there a way to prevent the screens from going to sleep?

I think I may have found the solution.

Go to settings > General > Accessibility > Guided Access

Once there at the bottom there is a mirror display auto lock. Make sure that is on. I was struggling with this and just found this setting.

Hope this helps,

Nik

Hi everyone,

we are Social Events and we had this problem too, we fix it simply by playing a video out of frame without sound;

This code is available only if you are on iOS 12 or more.

if#available(iOS12, *)

On the player we added this property :

player.preventsDisplaySleepDuringVideoPlayback = true

I launch this video every 10 minutes and release it ...until it is needed to play it again.

It is not a very good fix, but it works....I hope it will help you too !

Same here. I use it as a catalog kiosk in a library children's department. We can't see the Ipad from our desk, so its very important that guided access is on so they aren't switching to a different application! However, since it is going dark, the kids aren't using it because they assume it is off or not working. It was working great in iOS 11, but the new updates for iOS 12 are not working.. I even restored factory settings and reset the whole thing up and it doesn't work. Very frustrating!

Hopefully Apple fixes this soon!

Same here.

iOS 12.1 released October 30 2018 did NOT fix.

I have filed a RADAR 45702917 with Apple.

iOS 12.x has prevented all of our 20+ high-profile wall-mounted Teem-based iPad mini conference room kiosks from working. They go to sleep and employees can't book conference rooms because screen is black (looks powered-off to the naked eye) and our wall mounts/enclosures prevent the Home button blocked from being accessed. IT staff have to wake the devices up with a paper clip or other tool.

Yeah, Apple's lack of concern for small & mid-size business customers makes it really clear to me why Windows still dominates the enterprise 😟

Since it appears no fix is in the works for this, our business is planning to transition to LCD screens connected to the register workstation. Certainly wasn't money that I was intending to spend but they'll be cheaper and more reliable than iPads.

Me too. Son uses it has a communication device and we have to keep it in guided access or he'll change the language and mess up all the settings. Updated to the new iOS last night because I needed to Airdrop something and it would not let me otherwise. I should have looked to see if there were any issues before I did, because he throws a fit when the screen times out -- he uses it as his voice and when the screen goes black, he thinks the iPad died and then he can't communicate.

I feel sorry for all the business users who are having this Guided Access issue. It’s costing them money. It is only costing me irritation at the moment. I only have a couple personal iPads that I prefer to use Guided Access to keep the iPad running on the same app and to keep the screen active at all times at home so no one (teenagers and guests) can change how I want the iPad to function. Currently I keep them set for use as family calendar and home entertainment a/v source controller. It was working perfectly before upgrading to latest iOS 12.1 just a couple days ago. I hope they fix this issue soon.
