Mail defaulting to split screen

Hi all.

This is a minor issue, but it seems like a bug worth mentioning. After updating my 2015 Macbook Pro to Mojave, Mail has decided to pop up in split screen with Safari automatically whenever I wake it up. It happens even when I don't have any new mail. Has anyone else had this issue?

Thanks!

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch,Early 2015), macOS Mojave (10.14)

I have the exact issue as well.

Safari in full screen. After wakening up I got an split view with safari and mail. This is not helping because the whole mail app is displayed on half of the screen. With the full layout of mail displayed, you cannot read any mail: it is falling outside the screen. I have to close the mail app and then get back to it to read my mail.

This is definitely not a minor issue as it happens every time my MacBook Pro 2016 wake up... It's so annoying! In addition, the Mail app sometimes opens when I receive a mail. So, if I'm writing in Microsoft Words and receive a mail, the Mail app opens and I've to close it, which is quite disturbing while studying.

I've unchecked "Prefer opening messages in split view when in full screen" in Mail>Preferences>General, quitted the Mail app and rebooted several times without success.

So I did this two weeks ago like you had suggested and it resolved the issue - as long as I kept mail in full-screen. Yesterday I minimized it again and this morning it was back to split-screening with Safari. Your suggestion is a "fix" in that it no longer split-screens, but now I often have to shuffle between mail and Safari when going back and forth between the desktop, which creates another annoyance. I would much prefer to be able to keep mail minimized and only pull it up when I need to on desktop.
