iPhone XS screen prone to scratching ?
Had my XS for less than two weeks and i already have 20 plus scratches on the screen. Took 9 months to get this kind of wear on my IPhone X.
Is this what $1600 buys from apple now?

I have exactly the same issue.
I've been an iPhone user since the 3G, I've never used a screen protector on any of them and never had any significant scratches.
My XS has numerous scratches on it already; two of them fairly deep and I genuinely have no idea where they came from. I've just got back from a Genius Bar appointment where the guy who served me and the 'manager' proudly told me that the XS is the toughest iPhone screen ever, 'No' they've never used screen protectors either and they've never had an issue with scratching on their phones.
They declined to help me on the basis that the scratches were 'cosmetic' and so the system would not allow them to do anything about it.
To say I'm annoyed is an understatement.
I actually thought that I was the only person experiencing this problem. Turns out that I developed scratches on my iPhone XS screen as well. I was forced to upgrade from iPhone X due to a series of ridiculous events which I won't get into. However, I owned the iPhone X for almost 2 years and the screen was pristine. I had my iPhone XS for about 2 weeks when I noticed the first hairline scratches. It's clear to me that the quality of glass has changed.
It is true that after my iPhone 6 Plus I stopped using screen protectors but I am not a person who mishandles my iPhones. I am very careful with them and I put then in clear and clean pockets. Otherwise my iPhone X and iPhone 7plus would have been a mess.
This thread has definitely convinced me that there's something going on with the glass although a fix doesn't seem to be forthcoming. Looks like the best thing I can do is try to get the screen replaced by potentially a 3rd party vendor and then maybe start using screen protectors again. Sucks. :-(
Really?
I don't think that this is the point or even the question here.
In my opinion there shouldn't be a strict focus on how many customers have an issue rather if users have an issue caused by a poor production line within Apple's universe.
If this is true there need to be a free replacement (repair) program as they do for example with the MacBook Pro battery that may explode (take a look at sales numbers compared to MacBooks that exploded). If there is evidence that something is wrong with some display the company should act. This is why people are sharing their experience.
I bought a new iPhone XR last Saturday, just five days ago, and being $800 I was being extremely cautious of the phone but somehow a deep scratch appeared last night. The phone is stored in a pocket by itself and I place it on smooth surfaces when not in use. I don't seem to be the only one with issues only days or weeks into owning the phone. My SE, which I've owned for three years has NO scratches. I am definitely calling Apple today...
Why does a screen protector cost $50? Around here, screen 9H screen protectors, available in shapes to fit every iPhone since the 5, go for $1 or $2. They last about 18 months before I decide that the little chip in the corner has driven me crazy long enough. Then I change it for the next $1 protectors.
iPad protectors go for $8 each, or 2 for $12.
It boggles my mind how many people here are unwilling to spend $1 per year to protect their $1000+ iPhone investment.
Not using a screen protector or a back case is like ripping the horn out of your car. Just because you never needed it in the past doesn't mean you won't need it tomorrow.
That's not the point being made. The point is that the quality of the screen on previous phones has been vastly superior and therefore not purchased a protector. I have sold 3 in the past (after 2 years use each), no protector used and as good as new. Therefore I didn't think I'd use one this time and it scratches like a CD. Too late for a protector now.
iPhone 11 is even more prone to scratches! Here’s a video with Marques Brownlee who wonders how many deep scratches his 11 got in a few days: https://youtu.be/mg2aSSzxoeE?t=98
OK, to get better shatter resistance the glass has to be softer (= scratches).
I suppose we have to live with that.
My screen cracked after one week of use ! Carried in back pocket had I phone 6 up until 2 weeks ago . I have att insurance but just filed initial claim more to come .,...,,
If Apple doesn’t acknowledge and address the issue, Apple fans like myself will lose my trust and respect for the company. May be time to experience other phones and explore android.
THIS. I had an iPhone 6 for 2 years and it has less scratches on the screen compared to my XS.
Bye.
OK.
Bye.
Same problem. Less than 2 months, I carry it in my left pocket and keys in the right pocket. I don’t even know how it got scratched! 6S or 5 did not have such a problem.
I certainly hope that Apple is going to own up the problem and replace the screen!
Same issue here. I upgraded from an iPhone 6S a month ago... phone is always in my front pocket and already full of scratches. My 6S had only 1 scratch in similar conditions after 2.5 years!
You should purchase whatever product meets your needs.
