iOS 12 Time Off by an hour (timezone issues)

This is not a question so much as a bug report. I was on iOS 11.4.2 for quite a while and was trying to avoid using iOS 12. Then suddenly one day I woke up at 9am, and my phone said 8 am, seeing as I use my phone as an alarm, this caused some issues.

When I looked at my phones clock app it said the correct time for my hometown, but the clock on the phone itself was still set 1 hour behind that. I then did a backup and updated to iOS 12, the issue was gone for a while, then roughly a week later, today, the issue occurred again. At this point it looks like I'll have to look into getting a "dumb clock" or something as a backup since I can't really depend on my "smart phone" that can't even keep time.

Is there an ETA on a fix for this?

iPhone 8, iOS 12, was also on iOS 11.4.2

Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it seems you are having issues with the time on your lock screen being wrong. To help with this issue, please follow these steps from this Apple resource on your situation:

Check your settings

See if you still need help after each step:

Make sure that you have the latest version of iOS.

Turn on Set Automatically1 in Settings > General > Date & Time. This automatically sets your date and time based on your time zone. If there’s an available time zone update, your device lets you know.

Allow your device to use its current location to determine the correct time zone. To do this, go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services and select Setting Time Zone.

Check that your device shows the correct time zone in Settings > General > Date & Time > Time Zone.

If you still need help

If your device still shows an incorrect date, time, or time zone,2 change each setting instead of using Set Automatically. For example, you might have iOS 9 or earlier and your country or region or government changes the time zone or the observance of daylight saving time. If so, follow these steps:

Go to Settings > General > Date & Time.

Turn off Set Automatically.

Now you can change the time zone or the date and time:3

Tap Time Zone and enter a city with the time zone that you need. (Not sure which city to enter? Use the time zone map on timeanddate.com to find a city with a time zone that matches your needs.)

Or tap the date to change the date and time.

The option to turn on Set Automatically might not be available with all carriers or in all countries and regions.

If the time on your iOS device is wrong after you sync it with your computer, your computer's time might be wrong. Check the time on your computer in System Preferences > Date & Time. You might want to select "Set date and time automatically."

Manual adjustments to time settings to change app behavior (like game timers) isn't recommended.

Check your settings

This has already been done as stated in my post.
This is bugged out with a spinning loading symbol that doesn't go away even if I turn auto select timezone off for several minutes then turn it back on. The only way to fix it is rebooting.
This has already been set, and from what I read this is bugged as well, resetting on reboot, however I haven't verified if it resets after i disable and reboot on my phone.

As I said in 2, when the hour slow issue occurs, timezone is unable to be found until I reboot.

Turning off automatic update timezone based on location is not in my opinion an acceptable answer. Primarily because it's a feature on every phone. Secondly because it's considered bugged as well and resets on reboot.

I got same problem on ios11 i try everything, nothing helps....

Only when i was in apple store we set new account on iPhone and that fix problem...

Now i got xs max with ios12 and aaaagggaain same problem, on weekend im going to apple store try again with new account, but im really tired of this, i travel a lot in different time zones, got many appointments and I miss one only in this week ... ;/// i set up manually and after reset/reboot/plane mode , timezone back to Denver Colorado......

we will see what happens after this weekend...

That doesn't mean it's the carrier as there could easily be a bug in apples code making some users have issues retaining proper timezone settings. This morning I once again the timezone was wrong.

I have set my phone to manual time as I don't trust the "feature" that apple has in place. Like I said in the original post, I'm not asking for support, I'm asking for an eta on the fix.

I never claimed it was the carrier, although carrier is one of the contenders. What I suggested was using a simple test to eliminate or confirm carrier influences, because this is one of the few things a user can check easily without outside help or new software updates.

After reading the thread again, and the article linked, I am not convinced about some of the claims around airplane mode and power shutdown. In particular I have been unable to replicate reverting from a manual zone to to auto time zone as described, in my test over several hours with about 8 sessions in airplane mode mixed with two reboots by forced reset, two by power down.

Selecting time zone manually is completely acceptable, and a valid test for troubleshooting where one of the possible causes is your cellular network occasionally pushing an incorrect zone.
