I have a page that keeps popping up with a message that I have a Virus and to call a 1855 number is this a scam?

I have a page that keeps popping up "Warning Macos is infected with Viruses and other malicious applications. It locks my system an won't let me do anything until I call a 1855 number. Is this a scam? Would AppleCare lock my system until I call a number?

Yes. Keep in mind that Applecare is nothing but an extended warranty that you can buy for your computer. It cannot tell you anything about your system.

Is this happening only in Safari?

It's a scam.

1.  > Force Quit... > Safari.

2. With the shift key pressed, restart Safari.
