Continuous chime when charging

My series 3 chimes about every minute when the battery is full and on the charger. This gets very annoying at night. I have to take the watch off the charger to stop the chime which gives me less battery for the day. This problem started with watchOS 5.0.1

I think there are two possible causes,

1. If this is the same tone you get when first connecting the charger, the charger may be disconnecting then reconnecting (at least logically if not physically), so it would be worth testing with a different USB power adapter and magnetic cable, according to what you have available. I know you have the adapter which charges your iPhone, so that would be perfect for testing.

2. Something actually wrong in the watch, either software or hardware. Software is a prime suspect because it started with the update. You could try unpairing and re-pair to your phone again to force reinstalling the Watch software. If that still doesn't work the last resort is Contact Apple Support and arrange to get it checked by Apple. Don't just skip to calling Apple Support, make sure you already tried the earlier steps because they will want to try these first.

Don't forget you can charge your watch at any time, you don't need to wait until overnight for testing the fixes!

Solved (in a very loose sense). Was also draining watch battery, down to six hours in six month old series 3.

Got so p.o.’d that I left it for two days letting battery FULLY discharge. Put on Apple charger, lower power one and Apple charging pad. Left on 24 hours. Working perfect re battery charge, started dinging again after charging on third party pad. Let sit three days (battery working now!) and, as long as using all Apple charging, works fine.

It’s not the charger. That was the first thing I looked at. It’s fine until it gets to 100% then it keeps chiming every minute or so after that, like it’s saying ok I’m full, nope let me charge again, then ok I’m full, nope let charge and so on. It has to be software. I may contact Apple or wait and see if the next update will fix it. Hopefully the next update isn’t to far away.

Same problem here... 3rd generation watch, chiming started happening with watch os 5 update. while in nightstand mode, watch will make the same chiming sound you get when connected to charger. it will make this chime sound every couple of minutes once fully charged. i unpaired/paired, hard reset, tried a different charger, etc.

finally contacted apple support. if you send it to apple support, you have to unpair it... which means it's like a new watch. so of course i receive the watch back from apple support and they note that they could not replicate the issue. obviously they can't replicate the issue because it's a software issue. once my profile/apps/settings are removed, it becomes a perfectly operating piece of hardware like before the watch os update... when it did not chime every few minutes once charged.

still have not found a solution except for muting the watch at night. apple has been horribly unhelpful, but did offer me $150 store credit for a less than a year old $400 watch.

The answer is not that simple. I have unpaired and repaired the watch with my old phone. I now have it paired with my new Xs. It’s the same problem. Spent a couple of weeks with apple support running logs on my watch and sending them the logs. I told them many times it’s an watch OS problem and they said it was a charger issue until they reviewed the logs. It’s been on 3 charges with the same problem. Once they reviewed the logs, they called me back and said it was a know watch OS issue. Gee thanks I told you at from the beginning, what’s the fix? They said they don’t have a fix and may or may not correct it in a watch OS update so just deal with it. They don’t offer a replacement or fix for the problem as of now.

I had this issue on my wife’s series 3 in Oct-Nov 2018. The Genius Bar sent it in to Apple to be repaired 2 times and both times they could not replicate the issue. After they returned it the second time I spent nearly 2 hours at the Genius Bar demonstrating that 1. It was actually chiming every 10 minutes after fully charged and 2. all the “fixes” of fully powering off and unpairing and repairing to a phone (both my wife’s and mine), as a new watch, new Apple power brick, new Apple mag cable, did not resolve the issue. They finally replaced her watch with a new one. Now about 4 months later it has started again. I’m starting the whole process over again. The only solutions I’ve found that work are silencing the watch for the night or removing it from the charger.

Funny thing is I’ve never had this happen to my watch.
