Everything works in Apple CarPlay except navigation apps

I recently bought a new car (Mercedes Benz CLA 180) and tried using Apple CarPlay in it. Everything else works except navigation apps. When I use either Google maps or Apple maps, the current location gets constantly switched between the actual current location and somewhere in the middle of the sea near Thailand every now and then. Even apps like Find iPhone also shows the same incorrect location when maps are showing the wrong location. All apps works fine when not using CarPlay.

I tested with two iPhone X devices (mine and my wife's) with iOS 12 and I see the same issue on both.

Tested with an iPhone 6s running iOS 11 and still the GPS issue is there.

Tested with Google Maps on Android Auto on my brothers phone and it works correctly!

Has anyone ever seen anything similar?

Anyone have solution for this issue? I had been using waze and google maps without issue when using CarPlay. All of a sudden now intermittently the app loses my location and doesn’t notice me moving.

And it happens in my Honda Accord and I saw it in a rental VW, so it affects many different cars.

My issue actually started AFTER I restored my phone - I had another Apple issue so restored my phone - and NOW my navigation apps are messed up when using CarPlay

Feel free to move to Android, but note Android Auto also gets its location information from your car's head end unit and thus will likely also show the wrong location.

Android is not really an option for BMW owners (they are working on it though)

Also, some people just like iphones better and would like for this problem to get resolved

Feel free, but as I mentioned just last week I made several 2+ hour drives and never had my CarPlay maps wander off of where they should have been.

Mine definitely happens way less than 2 hours into a drive, which is pretty rare for me. I've had it happen 3 minutes into a drive before. Or 10 minutes. Definitely doesn't seem related to time.

A lot of cars hold their navigation maps and info on an SD card, rather than a DVD, or a hard drive installation.
