A software update is required to connect to iPhone

I keep getting a pop up message that says, "A software update is required to connect to iPhone" and asks me to install it, but after I click install, it just shows installation failed.

I have had this crop up on a couple of Macs.

The first time it failed as described above, this turned out to be a problem with our internal copy of Apple Software Update Server - it worked when done directly via Apple's own SUS.

The second time it worked fine - presumably the adjustments I made to our SUS cleared the problem. I am guessing an update was originally not enabled in our SUS.
