i-Pod Classic 160G will not sync with new laptop

I purchased a new Windows 10 laptop. The USB connections are all 3.0. iTunes recognizes the I-Pod but will not allow it to sync any new purchases. I have tried to complete the sync process with three different cables on all three USB ports. There are no errors present in Windows Device Manager with or without the I-Pod plugged into a port. I have run the diagnostic program in I-Tunes with the following results:

Microsoft Windows 10 x64 Home Premium Edition (Build 17134)

HP HP ENVY Laptop 17-ae0xx

Does anyone have any suggestions other than just throwing it in the trash and purchasing a Touch?

Thanks in advance.

An iPod can’t be synced with multiple computers at once. If you previously synced your iPod with another computer, you might need to erase the iPod and set it up as a new device. Connect your iPod to the new computer, open iTunes, select your iPod, and click Restore.

Thanks for your help. This absolutely solved the issue.

Assuming that you haven't actually resolved the issue, the following might help.

When you use iTunes to Restore an iPod, you then need to select Sync options for it (as it's a "new" iPod). Connect the iPod to your computer. Once it becomes visible in iTunes, click on the device icon at the top of the window:

User uploaded file

and then, using the screenshot below:

User uploaded file

  • click on Settings/Music (1.)
  • click on the Sync Music box (2.) to add the tick
  • in step 3., choose either:
    • Entire music library (which adds all your library's music)
    • Selected playlists, artists, albums and genres, which then opens up section 4.
  • if you chose selected playlists, artists, albums and genres (in 3.), you now select which items you want to sync using section 4. Scroll down the window for the other options
  • click on the Sync button in the lower right corner of the iTunes window (not shown in screenshots)
  • safely disconnect the iPod using the eject button (which will replace the "spinning arrows" icon above the battery icon)

Thank you so much for answering my question. I actually was not expecting anyone to respond. I completed the restore process as you suggested. The unit is now reset to the original factory settings. An there it remains. I have rerun the diagnostics the results are the same as they were. The only difference is that now there are no longer any files in it. It's really quite frustrating. Diagnostics says there's nothing wrong with it. Yet it will not synchronize with iTunes. Absolutely baffling. Would you happen to have any other suggestions before I throw it in the trash?
