Two Factor Authorization is stopping me from changing my Apple user id to an old account to turn off find my phone

Hi,

I had to do a restore on my iPhone 6 using Imazing 2. The restore worked fine!. But it also picked up information from an old apple id. My phone is asking me to log into that account to set up some services. I am trying to change my Apple ID user id to an old email address so I can log into the account and turn off find my phone. I searched the community and found the steps to change the id to an old id then log into that account using my current password. But when I enter my old id Apple tries to send a 2 factor code to my old address. The old email address no longer exists. There is no option to turn off 2 factor authorization. My current apple id is all set up on my phone and working. How can I fix this?

Thanks,

Rick

I'm a bit confused by your original post. Did the restore sign in your old Apple ID account to iCloud? If that account is not signed into iCloud on your device, then Find My iPhone is not turned on for that old account.

The instructions you found regarding changing your Apple ID to an old email address are old instructions that were used quite a while ago to turn off Find My iPhone on your device when you changed your Apple ID to a new email address, but failed to sign out of iCloud before you changed the ID, so the iCloud account was still signed into the old email address. This was long before Two-Factor, so it is not surprising that you might encounter an issue with this now that Two-Factor is in place.

But I'm not understanding how Find My iPhone is turned on for that old ID unless the restore software you used actually signed you into iCloud with that old ID.

What Apple ID do you see when you go to Settings>your name?

Just use a computer and go to icloud.com - you can turn off the Find My Device option there, do your recovery work, and then turn it back on from the phone itself.

BTW, backups that contain old Apple ID-related data and apps will taint your device every time you restore that backup. It's often worth just biting the bullet and starting fresh.

The restore did not sign me into my old account at iCloud. I did not realizes those were old instructions. Find my phone may not have anything to do with it.

On my iPhone 6 under Settings my current and correct Apple ID is displayed. Immediately under that it states Apple ID settings some account services require you to sign in again. I click on continue and it asks for the password to my old account *****@ comcast.net. I do not remember my password. I have not used that account for at least two years. I tried several variations of what I thought it might be until Apple locked the account. I tried to go unlock it but Apple says that id does not exist!

The phone works great with my current ID. All I'm trying to do is get rid of that request that account services requires me to sign in again to my old account.

The program I used to do the backup was iMazing 2. I was very happy all programs and settings were restored. I also asked for help from their support team. I am currently waiting for them to respond with suggestions.

Thanks for your input.

You're welcome! Did you try putting in your current Apple ID passcode? It is quite possible that the backup may have set up something in the background that is causing this issue. I take it you don't have an iCloud or iTunes backup you could use instead?
