(iOS 12) FaceTime Activation. An error occurred during activation. Try again.

Hi,

my son can't login into FaceTime or iMessages on his iPad. It is running iOS 12. The problem happened before with iOS 9 as well. See picture attached, as you can see, iMessage was working at some point in time but it just stoped working and requires to login again. We are using the correct long, the iPad has internet and we have tried this: If you can't make a FaceTime call on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

the error is:

FaceTime Activation. An error occurred during activation. Try again.

Is there a way to solve this problem? or should we go directly to apple support?

Thanks,

olmo

Greetings tom_mez,

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities! I understand your son is receiving an error when trying to activate iMessage and FaceTime on his iPad.

It sounds like you may have gone through the troubleshooting within the following support article: If you get an error when trying to activate iMessage or FaceTime

If the issue continues to persist after following the steps in the above guide, it would then be best to contact Apple for further assistance:

Still not activated after a day?

It might take up to 24 hours to activate iMessage and FaceTime. If the issue continues after 24 hours, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure that your device has the latest version of iOS.
  2. If you're using an iPhone, contact your carrier to make sure that you can receive SMS messages.
  3. Contact Apple Support.

Cheers!
