Keyboard Caps Lock does NOT engage

Following iOS 12 upgrade my keyboard caps lock does NOT enable when I Double tap the caps key. It should turn blue (with arrow symbol) to indicate caps lock is on and stay on until you tap the key again of shift to numbers/symbols, just to show I checked
Settings> General> Keyboard indicator shows Enable Caps Lock is on.

IPad Magic Keyboard Tab and Caps Lock keys not working at all 2021 iPad Pro 12.9”, iOS 15.6. I hadn’t used my Magic Keyboard in a couple months (I was on travel, and used a more robust case since I wouldn’t need to be typing much) and now my tab and caps lock keys don’t work at all. The LED doesn’t come on for Caps Lock, the Tab does nothing. Used an online keyboard tester to see if there was any signal coming from the keyboard, and nada. I was hoping to find a firmware update or something that explains the issue. Really frustrating to think a $300 keyboard didn’t survive a year. Any help, ideas, or insights are appreciated!

Mine is not blue either, but the double-tap for Caps Lock functionality works just fine. I have an iPhone XS using iOS 12.
