so what would you recommend for an antivirus and crap cleaning programs?
Also, my iMac has a fusion drive. What software can examine both SSD and spinning portions?
None!!! Mac OS is extremely secure and only needs to be kept up-to-date to remain so. Mac OS does not benefit by adding any types of cleaning, antivirus, or other third party "maintenance" apps. Leave Mac OS alone and if you are like most users you will enjoy years of trouble free service. Start adding cleaning, antivirus or some other "maintenance" apps and your system will become unstable.
For maintaining your Fusion drive, use Disk Utility which is included in Mac OS. The only spinning portions of a Fusion drive are the HD, the SSD is 100% solid state, this is why pure SSDs tend to be more reliable. Your Fusion drive will eventually fail as it contains a traditional HD that is fused together with software to the small SSD. If you want an extremely reliable system then get an external SSD, connect via USB 3 or Thunderbolt to an external enclosure and install Mac OS on it. Then use the Fusion drive as just storage.
