mail merge pages numbers

I'm using OS 10.13.6 with Pages 7.2 and numbers 5.2. I'm trying to make a mail merge. That is, I want to make a form letter, and have data from Numbers show up in my pages letter. This is something I have been able to do for years in MSW and think I was able to do years ago in ClarisWorks. Is this function supported? I can still do it on my 10 year old iMac.

"Format Menu allows me to designate text as a placeholder…"

"Placeholder text" is text in a text box that is formatted to be automatically selected when the insertion point is placed in the text, and is immediately replaced with the first character typed (and any text added to that).

option-command-I simply toggles the Inspector between show and hide. The Inspector opens showing a section appropriate to the context in which the keystroke shortcut was pressed. As recent versions of Pages do not support mail merge, 'anything related to mail merge' would always be out of context.

Barry
