Using iPhone with iTunes

Hi Apple Community,


I recently plugged my iPhone (iPhone 7 IOS 12.0.1) into my MacBook to update my iTunes onto my phone.


I got the following error message:


User uploaded file


I have tried and tried but I cannot find, or am trying to find the wrong version of software to update to.


I am currently running on this version of MacBook and operating system:

Please can someone help with what version of software I need to update to - or is my issue more serious?

So when i posted orginially I had all my Mac details including my serial number posted.


I updated to El Capitain from Yosemite and Itunes still would not recognise my iphone or my ipad. This has only been an issue since upgrading my iphone 7 to the latest IOS 12. I has taken hours, but after all the updates and reinstalling Intunes - it is finally fixed.
